Solid doors/Fire doors?

I need to fit a door to an opening, which has a frame in, which is 1780 high x 762. Rebate is 40mm. Obviously a standard door won't fit.

I thought I could just get hold of a 762mm FD30 blank, and cut it down, but the more I look I'm not sure?

I was looking at this but the instructions say to cut no more than 4mm off the edges.

Any ideas?

The trimming allowance in the instructions is the maximum allowed that will maintain its integrity as a fire door.

You can cut it smaller, but it would not then be fire-compliant.

At worst, if you cut it down and it is hollow, you have to plane a piece of timber to the back-to-back dimension of the plywood skins and glue it in.

If there is a block in the side for the handle, you might have to cut and fill equally top and bottom.

If you use an infill piece, put two projecting screws into it so you can hold them and jiggle it into place (if it goes in too far, there are not too many other options to pull it back flush).

762 is a 30 inch door, just the cut bottom off and block out as required.

Ive shortened a couple of these but cutting the bottom, off shortening whats left, and router edges and glue the bottom back on.

762 is a 30 inch door

im assuming its the 1780 is the problem 1981 is ruff the standard but at least its easy to fill in the bottem with a bit of wood if needed as wont be seen

I had a scrap firedoor from work.... very heavy and I assumed solid... it was solid but made from blocks of wood, not how I imagined

Thank you for that. I will just order a cheapy egg box flush door and cut the top and bottom down and refix the top and bottom timbers to keep the lock block centred as you suggest.

Just make sure you buy a solid door blank then you can cut to any size.

Don't forget to put in a slot into the sides and top of the door for a tumescent strip and fit a 'spring door closer' if you have to meet fire regs.

I cut a wide hollow door down by three inches on the hinge side fto fit ti to an airing cupboard , routed out the filler stuff poked the filled back for the door lock & handle insert block , made a proper dimensioned lipped routed both sides insert of hard wood used expanding wood glue on both faces of the insert & block , clamped i up over night and fitted the door the next day , you couldn't tell there had been any change it the door .
In this place we now live I have to make a narrow door fit a wider by three inches wheelchair accessible bedroom door ,will tongue & groove two hard wood inserts then belt sand them to an invisible match afore double undercoating & double top coating in white oil based paint .

B&Q call it tumescent but intumescent is correct strip and intumescent is not known by this sites spell checker, there is the type that will fill a slot in the door and the other type fits on top of the door jamb which I think would be susceptible to traffic.
