any recent advancements on interior white paint? non yellow

ive asked before , but the doors need doing again in the house

is there any recent /new fantasric white paint i should be looking at , prob not gloss but open to suggestions

This is going to get messy Gaz. On all out Tongue and Groove we used Farrow and Ball. But it was all primed first with zinsser BIN primer which made a huge difference. It’s been on 4 years and still looks great and no bleed throughs either.

yours is tried and tested with 4 years on the walls and ceilings

it has plenty of knots in the wood and has no bleed throughs

All white oil based paint still seems to go yellow if not exposed to UV light. The stuff I used in my "cupboard under the stairs" twenty years ago is almost orange now.

"They" say that water based paints are better in this respect, but in practice, I don't know.

Just don't buy Crown water based gloss paint. It may be whiter, brighter, and fast drying with very little smell but it needs to stay attached to the sanded down coat beneath and it doesn't the Dulux version works fine

Another vote for Dulux water based. All our internal woodwork is done with it, been on ages(years) and still just as white as when I put it on.

I’ve used Dulux Diamond? Water based Satin finish & that stays white, really good stuff.

I have never had much joy with Crown paint either. Always use Dulux trade or Leyland as second choice.

I've used 2.5L of Crown trade fast flow satin over the last 3 years, I've been happy with it, not yellowed in or out of the sun. I've not experienced any adhesion problems but everyting was sanded and primed with 1 coat of Crown contract quick dry primer undercoat.

My fathers family business was painting contractors, with 160 men in the 60s, the old man reckoned they would only let about 20 of them loose in a house. After my grandfather died, there was a big fally out and my Granny sold her share to his brother. In the 80s I bought a new house, the old man was chatting to a neighbour, a decorator. I asked, how he knew him “ oh he worked for us, but was only allowed to paint factory brickwork, now hes doing houses, god help them”.

I hate decorating, but was taught how to do it. Ive tried 3 here so far, and Id not have any off them back!

I worked with a Painter when I was shopfitting. His nickname was Stripes, his last job was on the Docks. He was called Stripes as they would only let him paint the stripes on the sides of the jettys. I now know why. I wouldn't let him paint glue on the floor

I use the Leyland satin white and it's good paint. Some skirting boards have been done for 3/4 years now and still look like new .

I used Zinsser Allcoat Exterior on my windows back in 2020 (the great covid re-decorate!) and it still looks brand new. It was the water based exterior gloss, paint on one coat as a primer & the 2nd coat as a top coat. That's on 130year old sash windows which get a reasonable amount of weather & UV so I'm quite impressed.

I tried satin paint once and decided it just looked like I 'd left it in white primer so had to go over it again with gloss.
