tig welding gloves

After a pair of welding gloves,seen a cheap pair on fleabay but they call em tig welding gloves,there no real difference to normal ones is there?

Tig gloves are much thinner than ordinary welding gauntlets, for mig or ma welding you need something like these,

You need a pair of thin skinned gloves for tig. That's all. Try tillman gloves and search for your size that fits correctly to your hand (there are online guides you can print and place your hand on it to find whats the size of your hand)

TIG gloves are generally thiner than MIG gloves. Some MIG welders prefer a TIG glove for their trigger hand for a better more sensitive feel, and a thicker glove to protect from the heat that is closest to the weld.

When I got my welder from weldequip I got the Esab pro mig gauntlets from his shop.
Due to stupidity I managed to burn a slit in the left glove, so ended up buying some cheap gloves on ebay.
The Esab ones are thinner and more comfortable than the cheaper ones, so I am using the decent one for my torch hand and a cheapo thick one for my left hand.

Ive noticed that some TIG welders have a TIG glove for their torch hand and a DIY work glove for their feeding hand as they are generally thinner and can feel the rod more, though with practice ive found that a TIG glove can feed just as well, i guess it's down to preference.

Welding gloves (mig and tig) should be stiched with yellow kevlar heat resistent thread.

Tip: Buy tig gloves a tad too small, soak them in cold water (not warm or hot, then they shrink!!) and wear them behind the telly. They then stretch out slighlty to fit like a glove... Doing the chopped mig glove mod to your tig kit is also quite nice. Check my photo albums...

Must admit I'm not quite clear on the television part.
My telly is quite close to the wall. If I turned it around so the screen faced the wall, would this work? I'd then be behind it. Certainly be more comfortable.

Mrs Joe thinks you might mean leave your wet gloves on the back of a telly, but if they are to shrink to the shape of your hands, I guess you'd have to have your hands in them. That sounds a bit risky - even for Mrs Joe!

My tig gloves are a bit too big - so I should really mind my own business here!

We two Joe's are now intrigued, please enlighten us!

Glad I'm not the only one having difficulty with the tv bit!
One day I'll actually take a shot of something I'm doing, but it rarely seems interesting enough at the time!....One day...

Yea, meant watching the telly. Is is a hack from the Dutch/Afrikaans way of saying it. You then do say you are behind your monitor or similar (sitting behind your desk). Even though English is as good as my first language, using multiple languages through each other can cause muddling of the way the expressions are used.

Netherlands, isn't that where Peter Pan lived? I've not found a perfect pair of gloves yet, they all seem to have something annoying about them like a lump on the end of the fingers where the stitching is bunched. Leather gardening gloves look like they might be an alternative, buy a ladies' size and use NTwo0's stretching tip.

And don't touch anything hot, the stitching will melt. The kevlar stitching is well missed on the gardening gloves.

When I need really good feel (ooo er misses) I use a pair of Mechanix gloves. They are a very tight fit, better than a pair of Latex type gloves.

Not for TIG welding but they seem to hold up to low amp stuff. Since I started using them more companies are bringing out ultra fit gloves intended for delicate welding work

I rarely seem rude in person!

I might well try the trick with my too large "Yeti size" gloves, anyway.
But as I find feeding tig wire without gloves quite tricky, (under-statement!) I'll need a new excuse if the shrink thing works!
