Acetylene shortage at hobby weld?

Just been talking with someone who enquired about an acetylene cylinder at hobby weld
He was told there’s no acetylene for new customers, existing customers only and maybe not even then
Does anyone know why?
Is it the same with other gas suppliers?

Hobbyweld don't fill the acetylene themselves. They go off to somewhere in Europe to get filled and they are having problems getting them done.

Agents have been told not to sign any new customers up for it.

Apparently there is enough existing stock and stock coming through to keep existing customers going at the previous usage rates. Providing people don't start panic buying!!
