EV is not being forced on anyone

I'm not too sure about that.
I just read a bit about the EU working on plans to make it illegal to repair older ICE cars if the cost of the repair outweighs the value of the car. Sounds like just another effort to make everyone buy an EV.

Sounds like Daily Mail nonsense to me, guess it's just a matter of perspective?

There's no doubt that removing older, cheaper, serviceable cars from the market is a direction being quietly nudged along by both the car industry and by governments.

Older cars being removed through ever tighter legislation on the ticket of saving the planet sees the cist of motoring inexorably rising... meaning the poorest will be the first forced out of car ownership.

Take these "Scrappage Schemes". Just like the Privatisation of Publicly owned utilities - the only beneficiaries from such schemes are:
1. The govt
2. Car Sellers.
3. Those wealthy enough to be considering a new car anyway.

Losers - are those who need a cheap but servicable, low mtce "banger" to get to work in. The well-off guy gets a bung of £2k if he chops-in any car with a current MoT - but thousands of cars with plenty if life left in them get scrapped - removing them as an option for the low-paid.

(Recently I believe Sunak proposed sending scrappage scheme cars chopped-in by buyers forced to go EV in London due to the ULEZ Piracy... to Ukraine! No doubt this was a move to curry favour with the Electorate - but it also proved a lie for the whole stated purpose of the scheme to lower emissions - just let those cars "pollute" Ukraine instead).

Nothing official yet, and probably just an balloon somebody in Brussels let up.
But where there's smoke there's fire. Knowing the EU it wouldn't surprise me one bit if this becomes law in the (near) future.

IIRC that was a post grad or masters thesis validation exercise , compare with Neil Ferguson's modelling in 2020. Just following the science ... very slowly on a sub 100 bhp bike, that was another Euro Demo.

I don't think you need any gov to make it illegal - if the cost of repair outweighs the value of the car the majority of owners scrap it and get a replacement! Some folk will have an attachment to their cars and pay more than the value of the car for a repair but the majority of the public will not.

If you drive a €200 banger filling up the gastank comes close to the value.

I do that for insurance valuations for one of mine, think I said my car was worth £50.
