Favourite bits of fab/engineering

We all have our idea of what impresses us in terms of fabrication or engineering.

Could be a huge suspension bridge and scale working model steam engine or the internals of a swiss watch.

Me its daft suspension and trick fabwork on daft cars....

heavy plant and machines, the stuff i get involved in now is tonka toy stuff compared to the earth movers and draglines i saw in western australia.

Traction engines are my favorite.
Love seing them before they get painted up, see all the joints and stuff.

nice a d9 hydrive i belleve did some track spacers for a D6 hydrive.

Heres the real deal the old ace of spades, ex british coal, now disused and looking likely to end up at the scrap yard. If its not already there.

yep proper dragline, not on tracks a walking one because of the huge weight, a lwb landrover would just disapeard into the scoop, I think what's left of BC are asking for about 4millon for the machine but i have heard our traveling friends are slowly striping the copper from it.

Seen sumat like that on discovery (dont ya love that channel)
in canada and they were moving it across the road,
It fell over so they had to scrap it.

They had to build a temporary road and it wasnt strong enough.

Just slowly slipped down the embankment...........

That dragline's some piece of kit. There are a few of those out west from me in Lanarkshire. Is the £4M the transportation bill?

Our local water authority decided to replace the waterman at the reservoir where I used to live with remote control on the dam, for efficiency reasons. Big engineering required, big crane to lift the bits in.... which slid off the dirt road. Cost them £1m to rebuild and tarmac the road and lift out the Brand New crane. At the time a waterman's earnings were around £10k. Big saving there then!

The wonders of L As, its always nice to know are tax is going to a nobble cause, did a bit of googleing on the wereabouts of that drag now, Its been dismantled and the americans have it, It was the largest in europe, its smaller older brother big geordie did disapear to the scrap, wonder how many bottles of oxy they used cutting that up.

This is a top bit of engineering - the Millau Viaduct in la belle France. I drove under it two years ago and over it last summer. Big........
