Heated Seats

Just seeing Dan's post about heated Mazda seats has set my brain in motion, yes, doesn't happen often. Anyhow this is the story. I have a pair of fancy seats in my Astra Van (Recaro's), originally from the top of the range sports Astra. They have all the wiring and plugs for heating the seats and other stuff by the looks but it is only the heated seat part I am interested in. What do I need to do to hook these up to the vehicle? Where do I get the power from and yes I appreciate a relay or two is going to be needed. I can put the switch in the centre console easy enough.

Possibly have a look on the web and try to find the wiring diagrams of both vehicles and see where they differ.

Have a look in the floor cut outs under the seats to see if the plugs are already there, you might get lucky.

I had a poverty spec astra van, added electric windows, mirrors, central locking, rev counter, heated seats etc etc

All wiring was there, just needed the body control module from the donor, back of the fuse box, and it all worked

Okay, in answer to my own question there are a number of useful video's on Utube that address this and as @Kayos has said, I just need the control module if everything else is there. Need to check all that first, I'll let you know how I get on.

Can't you just simply stick the heated seats wires into a plug for the 12v cigarette lighter socket, or too simple ?

I bought a cheap set of pads for the hot rod, drivers seat only, took about an hour all in too fit them and wire

With the food pix posted here as of late, I would suggest all wiring and products be "EE Rated"......

H and I already have the heated seats, they are in the car already. From what I have read they need to be "enabled" in the ECU, another pain in the harris. Not to worry, something else has popped up in my life to steal my time right now, I will get back to this eventually.

I use them in the 1990 Discovery under a seat cover,
usually get a few years out of them.
They have a three year warranty on them.

Find the wiring diagram for the car the seats originally came from and have a look. Some can be simple, some are ridiculously complicated.
I fitted some Mitsubishi Outlander ones as an upgrade, the high/low/off switch was mounted on the side of the seat and it was just a case of connecting 2 wires to live/ground to get everything working.
Also had a fancy massage/heated/cooled seat from a audi a8 or something. Lad wanted me to make it into a gaming chair on a base.
The wiring on that was a nightmare, basically power to a seat ecu and then a canbus signal required to get anything working.
There was another lad involved who made up some sort of fancy controller from an arduino or something but even he gave up once we worked out the seat needed information from the key fob to set the position!
