I bought these to make it easier to see the pins on a CPU that need to be straightened. They aren't really high enough power for that but they are incredible for everyday engineering use. or reading books on the bog as the light has blown

Only drawback is they aren't that high a magnification but that doesn't matter when marking out - scribing lines etc.

My eyesight is pretty good but these are still a big help - especially where lighting is poor.

I have had a similar pair for a couple of years (replaceable batteries rather than rechargeable - I used to leave the batteries out to make them lighter on my nose).

The clip that holds the lenses in gradually gave up and they're unusable now, as the lenses keep dropping off.

i bought a moveable magnifing light for that very purpose though mine is the plug into mains

much easier to use and it was a bargain when i bought it as it has a normal bulb in it at least its changeable compared to the led type below

i also have an adjustable spotlight that has an led bulb in it as well comes in handy for extra light on things

These are very light - clip doesn't look the best but would be easy to rig something up.
They really are so versatile.

You sure you're not taking after a colleague of mine . . .

Relies on pound shop readers, swaps pairs about trying to see properly, looking at drawings, and CAD all day - rather than simply going to the optician, having an eye test, and getting what he needs.

I walk into my optician, tape measure at the ready . . . I want to be able to read 3mm text at 750mm (distance to screen) and same at 350 mm (drawings). One pair of bifocals later, I can work in comfort.

Certainly isn't an eye test issue, a cpu pin is about 0.3mm diameter and in a grid of a thousand plus, they're a pita to do without magnification.

Dunno - I've got classic age related presbyopia. I can see anything over about 500mm away perfectly fine, it's just the closer stuff where a pair of readers is needed. Another pair over the top gives a magnified view for detail work, similar to the specs in the OP. I think I'll end up getting an Optivisor before long.

These are much better than an optivisor. I have both. Cheaper as well.

Exactly that.
I can read normal text fine. On my phone and on my monitor. I use pretty high resolutions no problem.

That's interesting - I had assumed that an Optivisor would offer a similar view, but be a bit more stable / robust (and even less fashionable). I haven't actually tried one.

I have to say, though, that those specs were very good optically, just a bit flimsy.

I would have to bin that CPU with missing pins. I don't have the patience or the skill to solder such small things.

They're not easy, but I have pin grids for most CPU's if anyone does need one doing
