Problem with IR heating is if you have any layers on, you wont feel it, and expensive for the heat you do get. It does t heat the air or transfer well to items so everything in shop will stay cold.
IR is ideal for a bathroom where you want instant heat for 10 minutes.

How many people die of CO poisoning each year from using those heaters ?
Not a using gas grill inside, not a torpedo heater, not a makeshift set-up.
Mine have a CO detector that shut's them off.
You could buy and install a ceiling mounted CO detector for under $30.

I do to... Big metre wide thing with five burners on it (not that I have ever used five rings at once).
Never concidered this to be a risk? We have always had gas hobs with an electric oven.
Quick risk assessment. Make sure you got a nice blue flame and turn the hood extractor on?

Not a hob but the boiler. When I was about 16 the council house/hovel we had to live in had a badly installed and non maintained boiler that nearly killed us all. We all felt sleepy and sick me and my sister were on the sofa half asleep when my mum realised something was wrong and got us out the house.
We waited for my uncle to turn up and when he did I went back in for something and collapsed on the hall floor.
Managed to get up and out again.
No carbon monoxide alarm, boiler not serviced for years, conservatory built over the flu that I think started leaking.
Council didn't give a monkeys.
Imagine that these days!

Got a hot B.40GB engine in mine..... twin plugged it last year, amongst other things....
Funnily enough - I spoke to a neighbour for the first time in ages 2 days ago.As @Farside says direct IR heating is most 'efficient', but not helpful if you are moving around the space.
An air to air heat pump has a CoP of 3-4 so as cheap to run as gas.
Easy enough to install if you are vaguely handy. Cools in summer too!

He's retired, & has recently had his heating "upgraded" to a system with an Air Source Heat Pump.
Another neighbour with us asked "is it any good?" - & he replied that it was rubbish, & he wished it had never been fitted.
(Like lots of this stuff - maybe it works OK I a super-insulated home - but in a 1970's- built ex-council semi??)

it still goes on there own service people past my boiler when it should have failed
when i reported them they extended the flue even further out and also other stuff that wasnt done on the council rented property
to say i only had one gas fire one combi boiler and a gas oven my own what did i get they failed my cooker so capped the pipe my oven was safe as i serviced it ever year
my job took 5 gas safe people to sort the job out in half a day and i have all of the undertaken work all on cctv
and yet the whole estate is done the same way only my house was done right after i went after one of there own workers

All in one diesel heaters work superbly. I've got the exhaust and combustion inlet going out through the back wall. The exhaust at the base of the unit is lagged and sealed with exhaust paste too. I usually end up working in a tee shirt whatever the weather is doing outside

I dread any of my neighbours getting one installed, the great roaring noise they make when working would be pretty offensive at night in my quiet little village, especially if next door. I sleep with the outside door to my (bungalow) bedroom open at night, all year round, and it’s totally silent outside most nights.

you cant do that in my area the foxes and cats would be in your house far quicker than you might think
though arnt you getting a little old here if your already moaning about a small fan spinning up compared to what you are doing in your shed as the neighbours could already be moaning about you
yet your moaning about a small fan spinning up, you should try freezer vehicles that have a loud deep drone on them really annoying

And it’s not a ‘little fan’, it’s a loud whirring fan about 24” diameter that I can hear 50 yards down the road when I walk around the village and see the two houses that already have them installed.
