Yes with a twin scroll turbo and about 320HP they’re good fun wee cars to drive and the road tax is much less than I’m currently paying, I think £250 ish

Yeh I’m looking 2016 approx which is quite new to meMy mate has one with the M Sport badge and it was "a bit quick" I think it was 6 years old when he sold it and it had no problems in that time.
The Jag iPace that replaced it though...

I had been thinking about changing our old XK8 300hp (22 years old) for a newer XKR 500hp (10 years old), but the tax is stupid.

Over in France road tax was abolished many years ago.
We do have Crit Air ratings, my cars got one in the window, don't know what it corresponds too, practically never go to big cities.

A mate of mine & his missus sold up & moved to rural France about 18-mths-ago. So far they seem to be loving it.
I'm certain the French wouldn't tolerate a fraction of the utter crud we get foisted on us here.
The problem with "road tax" or VED or whatever its called is that it has no basis on the actual usage or miles driven.
I've got no problem with it being emissions based (In fact I think that's a good thing). But why should I pay the same to drive my car 10 miles a year as someone that's doing 50k miles?
It just makes no sense.
And for those of us with multiple cars / motorbikes, it's even more ridiculous. I can only drive one at a time, so why do I have to tax them all?

The same racket applies to insurance: surely they could select the 'riskiest' vehicle you own and base a single policy for all of them on that (I know there would be a complication for theft or potential total loss of all your 'fleet' in a fire but really, how often does that happen? The greater risk is that while driving).
VED is a fine for daring to own a motor vehicle, whether you drive it or not. About a dozen years back there was a plan to tax a car or bike, even if it was in crates awaiting restoration.
