thats why this countrys knacked u cant get anything of the shelf firms would rather order stuff in when needed and keep there cash in the bank if they have any rather than having it stood on the shelf making no money waiting to be sold the wholesalers i use bend there backs double to get my gear on time otherwise il shop elswhere and they know it

So you dont keep everything you could possibly need in stock, ALL of the time.

Why dont you try asking any of the fabricators on here for something bespoke, I wonder how many of them have exactly what you want, sitting on a shelf, just waiting for someone to order it.

Quite the opposite, its companies like tec arc that actually keep this country going at all. Where would we be if everyone just made do with what they could get off the shelf, we`d lose a hell of a lot of industry, everything would be imported, and no-one would have any imagination or method to express it.

i keep a hell of a lot of gear on the shelf half a garage full . i havent the time to be pratting about traveling to pick gear up /eg waste fuel and an hour at the wholesalers . theres 35 quid each journy wasted

Yup, buy it off the shelf from China, that's a much better idea!

Alternatively, why not make a cash-flow limited small company tie up thousands of pounds worth of cash in stock, that'll help them loads won't it!

The Portamig is worth the wait. It certainly was in my case.

Half the donkeys we work for think we have racks and racks of stuff, exactly matching their requirements, to the right size, right colour, just waiting for them to ring up.
We recently quoted someone three weeks to fabricate and install a staircase....oh, he said, i thought you'd have it on the shelf as staircases are standard stuff for you?

lol next time your welder packs in at work and the customer is screaming out about his order being completed on time providing u have another few welders operational u will be ok but if not could u wait 4 weeks for a new one and tell the customer why . no u need one instantly. maybe ok for sumone who uses it for d i y but a few grands worth of machines isnt a lot to stock for a small firm . i have to shell out over 20 g at any one point funding half a dozen jobs

lets be serious for a minute if they are taking 8 weeks to make the welder and get it to you then they must be quite busy infact id say they were selling them like hot cakes and obviously cant keep up with demand.
it doesnt take long to assemble a welder, its like a caravan company a small firm can produce 20 36 foot statcs a day once you have the parts in hand its quick
if that is the case then they do ineed to up production and have a handful ready to go straight out.
industry wont wait for them it cant afford to in the end people will just go elswhere except for the diy user or those that dont need one due to failure of ther current machine

Maybe the reason we see 8 week lead times is because they are shipping them out the door next day to industry - it wouldn't be that hard to imagine them prioritising an order of 10 over an order for 1.

Must agree with the above, does not matter if I can have a ferrari for £50 in 3 months time if I need a car to get me to london today.

Lead times on these are getting a bit on the long side IMO

lol a 2 grand investment would buy 4 machines to have in stock tell the punter that it takes 3 weeks to get one delivered he will be happy .order another strait away so by the time it arives u can have a quick turnaround everyone happy

an individual "bespoke fabrication" is quite a lot different to a welding set that has a few standard options available.

i agree something bespoke is usually to suit one application only, these welders are available with options a bit like a car you choose from those options.
