I read that from 1st Jan local councils in England can no longer charge a waste fee at the tip, plasterboard, rubble etc.
Was never an issue in my area but surprised to read that a 3rd of councils were charging.
Good news for some.
Exactlythey have at last worked out its cheaper to have a free tip than to send out crews clearing up fly tipped material from laybys and country lanes![]()
But what is the ofset cost to remove the fly tipping from lay-by country roads and ditches ? they have not given a overall costExactlyAlthough some local councils are already saying they don't have the money to process.

DIY waste fee ban will cost Hampshire £2m, council warns
The government has banned councils from charging residents to dispose of DIY waste.www.bbc.co.uk
10 quid for a sheet of plasterboard! - no wonder...
Nothing compared to the cost of clearing up flytipped waste. Its the gov that introduced the sh1tfest landfill tax which makes everything so expensive to deal with, perhaps they should relax that and add it to the road fund licences.ExactlyAlthough some local councils are already saying they don't have the money to process.
Great news about stopping charging for DIY waste, thanks for the update @GragsonBut what is the offset cost to remove the fly tipping from lay-by country roads and ditches ? they have not given a overall cost
Will that also apply to fire extinguishers?I read that from 1st Jan local councils in England can no longer charge a waste fee at the tip, plasterboard, rubble etc.

I partly used a dry powder extinguisher a few weeks ago, and then when I checked about a week later it had totally discharged. I was at the time wondering why they charge for a pressure vessel but take scrap metal for free. What's to stop me cutting it up and calling it scrap?
Any link to this ruling as I can only find it referring to Hampshire CouncilI read that from 1st Jan local councils in England can no longer charge a waste fee at the tip, plasterboard, rubble etc.

Council DIY waste charges abolished
Charges to dispose of DIY waste at household waste recycling centres will be removed.www.gov.uk
The Government clarified the law in 2015 that local taxpayers should not be charged for disposing of household waste at civic amenity sites – scrapping backdoor “tip taxes”. It has also repeatedly stated that councils should not be charging for such DIY household waste disposal either.
