To get a fine for a first time into a poorly signposted LEZ just seems morally wrong. I remember a case of a driver who went through a "no cars allowed" archway, and had the case dismissed because of signpost clutter. Thee were too many signposts to be able to note all of the information. I've tried finding the relevant newspaper article on several occasions, without success.

I thought we didn't share vehicle info with France? I've never got a ticket for all the French speed cameras i've gone through.

There is no sharing of police / DVLA data now, but private parking / toll / ULEZ enforcers seem to be a law unto themselves, and if they offer enough cash, it seems the authorities here will hand over your (my) details in a flash. I wouldn’t mind but my car is ULEZ compliant!

The Bristol one is a rip off, they have deliberately included a stretch that people use to get to the airport even though it doesn’t go near the town centre. One of my colleagues got done, he uses Bristol airport regularly and had no idea. The bit that really grinds me with all these things is they know you’ve been there and they have enough detail to send you a fine but if you go on the website especially in London you cannot get a definitive answer as to whether you entered the zone or not. They want you to pay just in case

I got a set of trade plates - but latest DVLA guidelines state they must be mounted so you can see the original car's numberplates.
This latest guideline landed about the time the ULEZ thing started - so you would still get fined I reckon if you were using a non ULEZ complient vehicle in a ULEZ zone on trade plates.
Previously - the guidelines were to cover the host vehicles number plates.

they tried to do me for bath lez, I argued that there was no signage on the main road ,no prior notification to allow you to change route , threatened to go to court and sue them for running a scam, they allowed me to pay the £9 charge ..rather than the fine.

Yes, some private enforcement mob employed by Transport for London. Currently there is no exchange of information for speeding fines, but, if you don’t pay a fine incurred here and you return to France in the same vehicle, you could be made to pay the fine. Fortunately currently we don’t have ANPR here for chasing fines.

Every time I drive in central London I expect a fine to drop on the door mat...it's quite difficult even as a resident to avoid them.
Latest one is a bus lane (still a few days to wait
) ...I don't drive in bus lanes as a habit but sometimes they're designed in a way that your lane basically becomes the bus lane!....I suspect this is deliberate...nice little earner I guess.
