Heres an example of the all pervading mentality, Yesterday evening a post on our local community page, Deer with Broken leg, who can deal with it?
52 comments made most of which suggested various wildlife hospitals miles away. Rspa suggested by a few, Two suggested Police marksman or shooting club.
Overwhelming sentimentality expressed "Thats cruel/evil/how could anyone do that".
No wonder that many stalkers wont turn out for humane dispatch? Get filmed, get put on social media & vilified!

quite a sad reflection of modern society…..missing the point….what ever needs doing, needs doing now, not sharing on antisocial media! Mean while animal continues to suffer!

I am not into shooting/sport....
But I get so annoyed with this subject - animals need desptaching at times - it is the kindess - most moral thing to do - the faster it happens - the better.

Don’t think any cases have been found in the UK yet. Sadly I think it’s only time though.

I feel stongly about this subject....
No I don't like killing for "killings sake". I don't do shooting or field sports....
But an animal in pain that is not viable - does need "putting out of its misery" - very quickly without a FB debate about the it....
I see this as an "act of kindness"... Nothing less or nothing more...

We went for a meal at a Swedish couples house last month, the chap hunts Elk when he goes home and takes the meat with him when he goes overseas.
It's the first time I've eaten Elk and it was gorgeous, slow roasted and served in a rich sauce. Highly recommended

Maybe you mean Elg which Sweedish for Moose?We went for a meal at a Swedish couples house last month, the chap hunts Elk when he goes home and takes the meat with him when he goes overseas.
It's the first time I've eaten Elk and it was gorgeous, slow roasted and served in a rich sauce. Highly recommended

Very few deer would survive the trauma of a broken leg , being captured and housed in a pen till its leg healed as the broken leg triggers a shut down of the animals nervous system .
Talking with a friendly countryside Vet in 1987 who was on the duty Vet call for the county council & police , about seeing quite a few young deer with a foot missing at Castor Hanglands Cambridgeshire .
I'd taken a young deer out of some pig fencing wire and carried it bleeding profusely on my shoulder two miles to my car , then drove seven miles to get in touch with the on duty call Vet who immediately put it to sleep for the above reason .
" Yep" he said " The stock fencing that's supposed to hold sheep in is a nasty bit of kit when deer get their feet caught in the bigger top edge spacings as they jump over it to travel around the woods & farms . Advised me if I ever see a hung up young deer again to leave it braying it's heart out for it's mum who will be fairly close to it . Move it from her & she will reject it.
The young deer's escape exertions will either break the bone & foot off or if the keepers are on the ball it will get shot and fed to the hounds

Thats a fairly common method of carcass disposal….rightly or wrongly regardless of your views the death of the animal isn’t completely wasted.

It's sort of popular around here to take a hunting trip west to colorado for Elk.
I was spotter for a neighbor that was sighting in his rifle for such a trip.....It was a 300 winmag.
Common here for deer is 30-30 and 30-06.
And I've never been around one when it went off before....He's asking me where he hit the target, and I'm
still dazed by the concussion saying "Target ? What target ?"
That little firecracker is used mainly out west as the distances are much farther.
I swear the dirt came up off the ground all around us when he fired that thing.....

I was lucky , zeroing in my rifles was a doddle ,
Out in the middle of no where in agricultural land with a few miles clear back shot area I used to set a tennis ball 200 yards away in the middle of a very straight filled still water ditch 15 feet wide with ten foot high banks , set the scope on the rifle aim & squeeze the trigger and keep looking through the scope to see where the shot landed in the water . I got good at this so ended up using a table tennis ball instead for all my rifles .

It truly is. The day a groundskeeper at the local golf course asked us to release myxy rabbits on there was the day everyone stopped shooting for him. Gold course looked like the surface of the moon for quite some timeNow you did it....you made me consult Wikipedia:

The shoot that I beat on are doing a bit of forward thinking and are doing stalking courses. The countryside there is totally over run with them

You can trap deer but it's a bit of a process. Normally it's just a fenced in field with a swinging gate. Back in the day the deer would be shot with a tranquilliser gun and taken off to a farm to be livestock.
Some places they would have a net suspended over a trail ,the deer would trigger the net which would shoot out like spidermans net and capture it.
