i have a 3phase machine that the motor is reversible thru a rotary switch….

Is it possible to have a 4 pole x 1500rpm 240v motor that the direction can be switched into reverse…..
I'm talking 2,5-3hp…..ta

The motor on my rapidor donkey saw was wired wrong when I got it, and spun the wrong way. I can't recall if it's 2 pole or 4 though, but it's certainly 1ph.

Moderately useless answer but it gives an indication, I guess!

Normally direction can be by reversed by altering the capacitor wiring on the start circuit. Cap causes lag in phase angle which controls which way motor rotates. Need to have a look on net as to how it's altered some motors have details what to do in terminal box.

Yes it is perfectly possible with a modern motor.
I converted my 2 post car lift to single phase. It uses a 5 HP 1400rpm motor. It has a pair of contactors wired for either forward or reverse (up and down).
It's just a case of using a switch that will swap the polarity of the start windings with relation to the run windings to change direction

Most single phase motors can't plug reverse, so be aware if your doing something like tapping.

Quite possibly cheaper and easier just to fit a VFD. The basic 'AT1' from banggood, ebay or Amazon etc will do all you require assuming your original 3 phase motor is dual voltage.

It's for the Bridgeport, the lathe it would be a pain but livable......need to reduce the loading on a Digi Voltage Converter.....
been quoted nearly 2,000 euro's for a unit that will safely handle a the HP system.....1 machine running at a time.....
so far a 1,500 rpm motro is at 300 plus euros....
as for VFD's I have at least 10 machine that are 3 phase...the bigger units are 3HP.....
so if I could lower the HP on 3 phase it would save nearly 1/2.....on the DVC
just grabbing at straws........

have said before the elec comp want 12,000 euro's to connect me with 3 phase from my nearest pole....just 12 m away with 3 phase up there.....

Yes, it’s very possible to change the motor direction through a switch. Slightly complex to wire if you’ve not done one before but a barrel switch will do what you need.

Yup, i've modified every Drill press I own by bringing the starting windings out, and connected to a DPDT switch.
Tapping takes a little finese to judge when to get off the foot switch (another mod I do) so it stops (or at least slows to
below the centrifugal switch speed) to reverse.
