£550 for a solenoid i hope thats a mistake

No its not I am afraid.

I used to pay £200 for solenoids on woodchipper valve blocks untill I learned that they were a £20 item of Ebay.

Some companies have the monopoly here and they really extract the Urine

I was given a load of those small hand tools.
So I cleaned them up.

Fitted them to a care home to fill up some old spaces.

So I'm pretty chuffed to have rescued a dead desktop PC I use in the garage. It was in a death spiral of blue and black screens...Even asked my IT support neighbour who advised to bin it....( civil servants eh!).
The wonders of YouTube and a £3.50 cable, a jump start off a working pc and several hours of it doing it's thing and hey presto it lives a bit longer

Well not fixed, but started on another engine change today.

4.5 hours later it was out, no rushing, will take longer to clean and repaint the bilge.

Seperated the gearbox once the propshaft was seperated from flexible coupling, easier to get the engine out.

That'll get kept as a spare good engine, in case one dies. There's a brand new one waiting to go in.

Nice little job tonight.

This odd Oil Lamp came my way.
It was just missing a wick. It also needed a service and a clean.

The lamp was striped and cleaned. The metal was given a polish with my my mix of oil and wax.

The wick gears was cleaned of the old oil and fuel. With just hot water and washing powder.

The new wick was cut a bit longer than needed. Then a slight angle is cut the make running the wick in easier.

Clear lamp oil, food dye and menthol mix.

First light. Turns out the original wick was rotten, so I fitted another new wick.

The chimney was cleaned and the fingers "tweaked" to hold it correctly.

That was a retired engine, like this one now is again, that I slung in, in 2019, after the original engine died. We'd been meaning to change it, but between covid and Kubota having issues in the supply chain, its taken a while.

It did 4 years, completely hassle free, it's a good spare engine in case of emergencies, enjoying its second retirement. Apart from 400 hour oil changes, generally, they don't go wrong, we change all the rubber coolant pipes every few years, there as good as small marine engine get frankly.

Yeah, over 20 years we've had some issues, but to be expected.

Back to heating....
Other local friends asked me to look at their oil CH. Rads upstairs not functioning. Simples I think, no pressure in the system, as indicated by the guage. So open the valve that connects the system to the cold water supply. Nothing, not even a sound of flow. Hummm. Disconnect the link and open the valve, nothing comes out?
After some prodding, turns out the cold supply is blocked up for a metre with hard silt. Bit odd, since it is rarely used. Anyway, cut out the length of pipe and fit a new valve and a long flex to the connection to the circuit. Open valve and satisfying noises with the guage going up. Lots of air bled out of the top rads and all well.
Friends delighted.
My Halo gets a polish.

Ardvark's nice one on lights takes me back to the farm in Portugal. No lecky, so those where what we used in the evening. Sunday morning was glass flue cleaning day. We also had a Tilley lamp, but that was a bit hot to be by there, so poisitioned it to shine into the kitchen and living room.
Happy days, if bl**dy hard work.

I acquired this pump the other week.
I knew it was only fit as a decoration, I had a good look in the bore.

This is the lower flap valve and weight, this is a good show had bad the internal rust was,

There was 7 layers of paint, all over rust.

In the end i brunt the paint off.

The internal lift and transfer valve assembly in paint.
BR "red Lead", it was free, but I hope it will be better than over the counter stuff.

Internal assembly rebuilt.

The lower valve is a new rubber assembly.

New cork gasket on the outlet, new screws.

The cap and lever was rebuilt, only one old bolt was saved.

All done. I have tested it, it does pull a vacuum, but the pitting is so bad the water will by pass the internal valves.

Recently I lent this classic T10 pressure lamp to a friend.
They give of good light and just under 1kW of heat in an hour.
If using correct fuel.
If up the pressure.

It was retuned to me, not working.

The wrong fuel was used.

This attacked all the seals.

The worse was the NRV seals. The black ring is the sealing washer, expanded by the wrong fuel.
This allows fuel to be pushed into the pump body and out of the pump.



I was lucky I had spares.

Even fixing that washer and the rest it still was not sealing.

The seal had broken up and had jammed the NRV.
So new seals, springs and a bit of lubicant. Re flushed the tank and we are now keeping this lamp for my self.

This Aladdin Green house heater was mine this week.
It looked in good condition. But There are always a few checks you need to do on them before use.

The wick was rotten, so a new one was fitted.

The fuel indicator was free, but I rehomed the VERY large spider living in it.

It was not happy, but it will live.

The new wick s burning, just hard to see. A nice even blue color.

All done.

Rust.
With more rust.
It was an 4 chain adjustable lift kit.

The date on all the parts was 2022.
The main shackle was seized, but a bit of warm oil had it turning.

Theses parts just needed a bit of oil.

Heat was used to burn the rust off.

In Paint.

Almost done.
Just got to wax and oil the chains.

added a couple of extra silencers and heat wrapped the race cars exhaust, then sprayed with vht paint to seal it (makes the exhaust much easier and less itchy to handle)
