I think most UK visitors will be blocked from that link, bouncing off an East Coast proxy and I can see it though.

For everybody else it is a shop that sells food which is attractive to Deer so they will hang about that piece of land, not cheap either.

If you really wanted to it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility to round up the dear and process them commercially. Round here some of the herds are heading into the hundreds. Would need to be a few adaptions to the processing lines to deal with the jumping but not impossible.

Head shooting for the pot is my preferred method. Nice clean carcass but apparently it’s not good for the meat.

With regards to why the English dont eat much Venison,perhaps its because of the name?

Not atall they have a deer farm just down the road where the animals are corralled and sent to slaughter. They have many deer farms in new Zealand that do the same. It just requires the correct corral as obviously a cow or sheep race won't work.
There are specialist slaughter houses dotted around the country set up for dealing with different animals. Everything from wild boar to buffalo.
It would be a challenge but not an impossibility, especially with the volume around in some areas. In Horsham it's not uncommon to count 100 in one go.

The big dear farm at warnham seems to manage. From memory most the handling system is in the dark which stops the problems.

Because those Deer are already on a farm in the first place mate.

You suggested mustering mobs of wild deer and then processing them,which has been tried and doesn't work.

Interestingly a deer can jump clean over a Deer fence if say a blanket is draped over it. The hight of a Deer fence tricks the deer into thinking the fence reaches the sky.

The problem you have over much of the country is that Deer have become urbanised. Here in south Essex I grew up in Benfleet near what is now Hadleigh country park. At that time it was alive with rabbits, so much so that at times the fields were like a moving grey carpet. This was despite regular myxy outbreaks.
Those days have long gone with the arrival of VHD rabbits have become scarce & now i hardly see any.
Instead they have been replaced with Muntjac & there are loads of them. Roe are moving in too.
But the problem is they are moving into a highly urbanised area with very fragmented land ownership, Most of the landowners simply wouldnt contenance any deer control due to Bambi syndrome, No feo would give permission to any stalker to use a rifle over 90% of the local land as its simply too crowded & not safe to use a rifle. So anti sensibilities coupled with safety concerns means practical deer control is effectively ruled out completely.
Now their only control is by road accident!
With Munties breeding all year round we will be over run with them soon.

Chronic wasting disease is a similar disease to BSE in cattle, Scrapie in sheep or CJD in humans. It first appeared in Anerica, but some cases have been found in Sweden & Norway, Dont know if it has ever been found in the UK?

As for venison & the price, Its regularly on sale in many supermarkets but is always a niche meat that is pricey. We only buy it if its on special offer or in the reduced section!
Got some nice big chunks of Muntjac in the freezer that we were given a few months back, they are superb eating.

Yes, i posted a link awhile back, it's heading north to my area.
The claim is the deer farms have caused it, and it has xfered into the wild herds.

I used to run a rabbit farm so did six other friends , VHD / RHD is not always 100% fatal , some does get it at the right time and pass anti bodies on to the hours / day old's who sometimes survive after four weeks old .
Vaccinating against RHD & using these antibody rich stock, the population builds with inherited resistance till suddenly a slightly new variant comes along or the antibodies become much reduced after several dozen litters , the stock gets knocked back . It's the same in the wild rabbit population the cycle used to be three to five years .

We've poor bloody rabbits here, all puffy eyes, hopping around the patio banging into things. Even the cat is leaving them be.
