do i need this vice ?

Ive never used one of these before and I have 2 of these i bought with a job lot of tooling one is brand new in the box



Im guessing its a bar/tube vice so not sure wether to keep or sell has anyone used these before ?

looks to me like a vice for bolting on to a milling?scraping table as the slots on the side could be fore just a drill vice so it can bolt to the table to hold round bar ?

You want a pipe vice for that.

RS always expensive especially for stuff like that. They can be had for half that price, for example https://rdbarrett.co.uk/product/shaft-vice-by-linear/ and you can probably find them cheaper as R.D. Barret are not exactly the cheapest either.

Yeah I'd never buy from RS usually top end price , I'll probably keep one as theres a few occasions where i wish I remembered I had these as fafing around lining up a shaft in the mill

As you see, it is made by Linear Tools. Bison also make one which is more expensive.

You could drill and tap a hole grid in the base of the one you have and it would make a reasonable angle plate.

Or turned on its side and bolted to an angle plate so the jaws are vertical, it could hold shorter round stuff vertically.
