More Skoda gremlins

I need some help!
The mother in law's Skoda Fabia has an engine management light on the dash so she called out VW roadside assistance and they've found the following fault codes.
I can't work out if he's written 3 B or 8

Skoda can't look at it until January!!!
It's a stuck wastage rod by the look of it. The car was sat around for a couple of weeks as she was ill
Is this accessable without dismantling the whole car?
Can I **** it around a bit to free it and lube it ?

That's P2B93 and P25B4.
Difficult to say which one is first - a bit chicken and egg - but to me if the position sensor on the turbo isn't working properly, the ECU may not be able to tell whether the turbo actuator is stuck or not.
Regardless of whether it's a wastegate or a Variable Nozzle Turbo, I'd be checking vacuum hoses to the actuator (unless it's an electric actuator), then wiring to the position sensor, before condemning the turbo.
If it's a vacuum/pressure actuator, you can try to move it by hand. If it's an electric actuator, you may not be able for fear of damaging the internal gears.

I would see if you can get live data feed of the boost pressure and waste gate position sensor.

Looks like a 1.0 petrol engine.

I'd be trying some oven cleaner on the wastegate arm and shot into the exhaust side of the turbo to break down any carbon build up.

If it has an external waste gate you can work the erm in/out to make sure its not stuck.

Then reset codes and drive it to see if it comes back. If so change the sensor and see if that sorts It.

This business of a dealer not been able to look at a car of their own brand for 3 months is ridiculous, enough to put you off buying that brand in the future, I had similar with Jaguar Landrover in Carlisle last week.

I would see this as the wastegate position sensor has failed or the diaphram has split - what it needs is to go onto live diagnostics - graph the postion sensor out and move waste gate with a mitivac pump (will prove if diaphram holds vacuum and sensor has ohms range thru travel and if the wastegate moves in turbo).

Skoda booked solid till Jan 2024 - unreal...

No our MGA was a year or two later, sold it when wife couldn’t get in it pregnant. It was an utter shed, fibreglass wings, I paid £150 for it. I fitted an MGB engine with a Piper head & used it as a tow car for my trials car, towed a caravan with it to North Devon as well. Sold it for £300, so made a profit. Our honeymoon was a couple of nights on the south coast, on night was in Bournemouth at a bed & breakfast place suggested by the tourist info. office. We got there & a foreign man came to the door said it’s£xxx & held out his hand for the money. At breakfast, we realised why, we were the only ones married, there was all these couples “do you drink tea” “what did you say your name was” “how much!” it was the local bonking hotel.

Unless it's still under warrantee then why not go to a trusted independant garage for repair ?

Fairly common across all marques just now, due to a shortage of techs who actually know how to fix vehicles.

I would agree with the above - 100%

Made worse with the lack of taking apprentices on from the year 2000 onwards.

City Guild level three training as no revelance to modern car repairs.

Dealership training being one one make! (why would it not be).

Fast fit "fitler spiners" - picking and choosing the repairs they do (only do easy high profit jobs)

Plus the low labour rates we charged the retail customers till recently keep wages down.

High industrial property prices pushing garage operating costs up.

Anybody who can do it - normally sets up on there own and then learns how much they need to charge to make it work.


There is a shortage of people who want to be a car mechinic - there are easy ways to earn a living - there is shortage of MOT testers as well now.

I wonder if a lot of people jacked it all in during covid and never came back?
Lack of encouragement toward manual work, engineering or trades from schools for the last two decades or more, pushing for university when the kids can't hack it and all this media/IT studies ******.
Anyway I'll have a look at Granny's car tomorrow morning and report back what I find.
