Decided to put my logo on them
Wasn't sure how it would come out on the spherical surface but came out fine.
To give an idea of scale the capital letters are 0.5mm high.

I should really have reduced the interval pass from 0.1mm to 0.05mm but it is still ok and looks better than the camera shows or at least with my eyes anyway

Took a few hours to knock this up. Anyone guess what it’s for? My guess is two or three of you might. I’ve test fitted it, but not actually used it yet. Off to play now.

Hmmm, maybe I should try that.
No, it’s for indicating the lead on a helical gear - I think it it can be used in conjunction with the table travel to calculate lead, but I’ll be using it to check that a given set of gears gives me the lead I want, to get the helix angle right before actually cutting the gear. (Some maths involved which could introduce errors in more than one place).
In an ideal world the maths should give me what I want first time, but to date I’ve been wrong every time, the first time I cut the angle the wrong way...

Isn't there a bit in Machinery's Handbook on measuring and calculating helical leads? My copy (a very old one!) has all sorts of useful formulae!

Just made a quick CAD model to try and interpret a dimensioned 2D sketch, that doesn't match the 3D assembly sketch, of which neither match the instructions

And I've just found the latest sketch which shows a 4th variation

Thankfully the 4th variation is actually an improvement, and contains a change I would probably have made anyway along with a couple extra features, but still, is it really that hard to have some kind of consistency throughout a manual and website?

Pair of fireplace tongs. Made from a few scraps out of the bin at work. No more burnt fingers.

I made a Plier Wrench whole again... I bought them to modify the jaws for a special purpose, so the first thing I did was pull them apart. Then I found an easier solution which didn't need custom made pliers, so they sat broken and useless in my drawer for a while. Until today, drilled out the bit I snapped, helicoiled M2.5 and drilled the button for a CSK screw. Looks quite sharp if you ask me, maybe even better than normal.
