...and some people are at "Eleven".....There are levels of madness
From title i thought you were talking about this kind of thing
My usual mode of removal of coil springs off struts is to put the leg on the floor with a coat around it, Uggadugga gun on the nut at the end and go for it. Saves loads of time. You’re never quite sure if the gun, socket, nut, top bearing etc will still be in your hand when it lets go, but there is something exciting about it in this world of sanity and safety...
Yeh that doesn’t look like fun! There is one particular Mercedes car spring which strikes fear into me when I have to remove them. They are from the w140 series S classes. Like my S320 below:

The photo doesn't do them justice as these are like HGV springs.
It's also the only time I have had a failure of internal spring compressors was on a w140.
I remove all springs with care including welding gloves and face shield and always keep it facing away from me. That paid off as the immense pressure to squeeze one of these springs down was enough to cause the spring compressor to flick / Jump off its holding lugs and let go mid removal
It exploded before my eyes but no harm done as I was ready for it staying out of the way at all times. I modified the spring compressor with larger lugs than standard so it can't happen again and it has been fine on a couple of w140s since.
No, because when you start you have the whole thread to go, and not watching just adds to the intensity.I bet you close your eyes before pulling the trigger.
