Found an unknown welder

I'm thinking about buying an old , certainly heavy, yellow,arc welder
Connected to 230V single phase.
It can be used on 380V
Selling price is good and it reminds me the welder used by a friend of mine who its looking us from upstairs in the sky .
So the seller says it's capable of 210A single phase
And from the picture looks like is 30cm wide,50ish long .
I think it's a CEA 151 but specs are not matching.
I'd like to identify it , because I can't buy something I can't even move.
Can someone identify it?

That's the only picture I have .
It's not extremely big but even the 400A one used by my friend wasn't.
I'm concerned about go 50km far home to buy it and figure out I'm not able to lift it on the van .

Yes I know it's a lump of steel...
But it might be good for a little arcair setup

We skipped this stage over here in Italy
We used to have dinamo welders (can't really correctly translate) similar to the Lincoln bullet if I'm not mistaken
Then directly air cooled transformer based welder

Most likely too heavy to lift by one person if that is what you want to know.

Deffo two person lift, or an engine crane.

But it is on wheels, and it's yellow.

My Oxford MigMaker 180-1 transformer welder is I believe 37kg, which I can lift & load OK solo.
This yellow job being older & 210A.... is probably a bit heavier at a guess.
Could be in the 50kg bracket

I was looking at the CEA silarc 151 which is 170A and it weighs 110kg or it was the 251 .
I believe that is surely more than 70kg which is practically my dead lift capacity (roughly 40% heavier than me)
I'm waiting pictures from the seller.
Told to a colleague of mine and he said I don't need it ,that is useless compared to modern inverter.
Maybe right for welding but not for what I'd like to do with it ...
Air carbon arc gouging, which I'm able to do with my inverter too .
But I think this thing would be better for the application then is cheap.
My colleague offered me a transformer based Tig but is electronic controlled which is what I don't want.
Despite I'm young I love old school stuff .
It would be a toy hanging around, taking space and dust most of the time but well worth 80 euros

over here here big old units dont fetch much as most have not got the power supply to run them but 50 to at a push a hundred is about the going rate for big old stick welders ive sold a few


if you got the cash spare and you want it buy it as long as when you get there it powers up and strikes an arc and lays a weld

most of the older mechines weld well and and will do all day long with out missing a beat

It's a CEA Avia 224 , apparently DC welder.
I received the pictures this morning at lunchtime .
I will restore it ,if it's not rectified I will, slap an incuctor I already have built for my welder when testing E6010 it don't look beat up
He gives two esab electrodes packs too I believe it's around 50/60 kgs
My friend used to have a smaller one with no fan rathed for 100A 100% duty cycle.
It would be awesome if is possible to replicate the decals and take it back to its shelf conditions .

Here is a symbol which makes me think it's just a simple transformer welder with no rectifier
All though I think it's possible to modify it
There's another one closest home which is small little bit more expensive but rectified ,a Telwin quality 160DC but this one is certainly much more tough construction
I used to have a 140A one which I've give for free to a guy intended to learn ,met on Facebook, never had the time to use it , and I already had the inverter
That's more a side project which I'd enjoy to work on with

Not much for air-arc (not big enough) but try some a.c. rods
and see how you like it.

At least A.C. you don't have to fight arc blow.

What is the open circuit voltage ? I think I see 45vac on the nameplate.

Well I actually have some 4mm carbon electrodes which require around 90 and 150A , and short runs with what the compressor is capable to deliver.
So I hope it might work.
I didn't see the ocv before you said it's written one the name plate
But looks like it says 50V it's written sideways on the specs plate.
Once rectified would be around 70V
As load voltage would be more than 30V
So technically the numbers are there.

If you have a van you don't need to lift it, just make a ramp from two planks and pull it up.

Same.

Most of what I own is older than me. I can see the benefits of an inverter welder but don't want one as transformer welders last a lot longer and are easily repaired.

Well,went there ....
Tried to run a bead ,talk about work cars etc
Paid and came back home with the welder.
Now I'll have to clean a little corner where to locate the welder so it can collect some dust prior I'll start upgrading it
