That's pretty much what I did. Looking at photo's isn't like having them there in the flesh though. Having some carbs knocking about is no bad thing either.

I'm wanting to get it sorted this week as I'm on holiday, so have the time to sort it.

i would think the bottem of the engine would still need its oil to the right level as i would assume there is a pump unless its a splash type engine

and dont 2 strokes need compression in the whole piston chamber thats why they oil in the fuel

Sump is at level too. Didn't end up needing to resorting to 2 stroke. Dad had a bit of petrol at his.

I now have a properly working backpack blower. Can whack it upto full throttle without issue now. Even the throttle control cover from the original fits the new carb.

Used this carb:

One had a larger port on the engine side, so dismissed that one. The other is very similar to the above, but the gasket hole was misplaced, so just went with the one which was a straight swap with no faffing.

Plus, I now have a fuel adjustment screw, if I need to tweak it.

Goes to show they're basically using a generic carb, with slight alterations.

One of the others I ordered will fit too, so already got a spare, but I think I'll get another of the above too, as then I've got some more fuel line & another filter too. This one is the other:

Going to see if I can swap the blanking plate from the old carb to that one, to get rid of the unnecessary primer bulb on the carb.

Given it a proper test today. Running like a dream now. So nice to have it working properly again. It's spent more time sickly than well, since I've had it.

I've swapped the blanking plate over to one of the other carbs, & ordered another of the carbs it currently has fitted, just incase.

Looks pretty much like the same carb as I fixed for my brother, on his strimmer, but upside-down.
The adjuster is hidden under a rubber plug, inside the throttle pivot.
(the brass item which the throttle cable leads to, in this pic)...

opening the throttle pivots a cam and lifts the main jet

The other adjuster was locked-off to be tamper-proof (but can be removed).
I had planned to buy a £15 carb to fix it too, but once I'd got the two adjusters useable, and cleaned out the carb, it ran perfick

Seems to be my week for repairing gardening tools. Ordered a new fuel cap for the strimmer last week, (Hyundai, so typical import fare). Fitted it, tried the strimmer, no movement at the spool end. Bearings had seized on the clutch housing. I've just soaked them & worked them loose. Now up & running. Bearings may go completely at some point. Looked at the cost of a bellhousing/clutch, & it's not worthwhile ordering & swapping bearings. Under £30 for a new unit. This's the unit.

That cheap carb seems to be more reliable than the OEM one. Fired it up today, for the first time in a few month. Half tank of fuel still in from when I last used it. Half expected similar symptoms, but it ran like a champ.

I encountered the same problems. After deep cleaned the carburetor, exhaust muffller, adjusted valve clearance, changed both fuel lines. It still stalls when pressing throttle to maximum. Then I changed below top 2 diaphragms, and it works great and very powerful.
Maybe you can take a try.

It's still running fine on that cheap replacement carb, last time I used it. It'll be getting dragged out again soon for leaf clearance, so I'll know if it's still performing then.

& it's still performing fine. Topped the tank with fresh fuel, (was just shy of half full already), & it fired straight up. No stuttering or dying on full throttle either. That replacement carb has been faultless.

Some of the clone carbs are decent. I believe some big manufacturers are getting their carbs made in China now, same factory as the clones ?

It is but it smokes a bit. In my splitter I use Briggs and Stratton fuel preserver in the four stroke fuel and it keeps it lively.

The original did bear a lot of similarities to this one. This was a drop in replacement, practically. Only difference being, this has a primer bulb on the bottom of it.
