My garden is growing a treat currently. Done a lot of work this year on the garden..my black diamond hydrangeas are doing a treat..and a tiger flower has just flowered overnight. Somewhere there should be a starfish iris and hoping that it comes up...also got four new hydrangeas coming...vanilla Fraise..glam rock...marcrophylla bavaria...paniculata sundae fraise tree ...

Wife spent lots last year on ferns and ever green types and rabbits managed to kill all but 1 of the 12 plants we planted.

That's interesting. I grow mine in pots stuck in flat tray containers containing constant water supply.

I been at Dads this morning - doing the garden with him.

Cut and edged his lawns...

Gonna be dry for 24hrs - so sprayed some weedkiller about.

Odd thing is - I don't mind spraying weedkiller on his shingle driveway/paths/borders.

But spraying off Dads prize veg plot makes me feel like a failure...

I just not got the time to do it for him. And it saddens me no end - all the time I spent on his veg plot as a kid - planting and harvesting things for the pot. Sharing gluts of produce over the years. Now I just spray it off with Glyphosate - rake and burn it off....

Sounds more like you haven't given enough water & nutrients previously so when they do get plenty they go crazy and split .

For all you gardener with the usual glut of courgettes the size of marrow, and the question we ask every time at this time of year “Why do I insist on growing courgettes”. A friend sent me a recipe for courgette cake, which actually tastes ‘good’.

Now on my second cake, and down to only 4 courgettes left in the fridge.

Anyone interest, I shall wipe off the courgette juice from the paper recipe, and post it at some point.

We're hitting a sweetcorn glut now. We planted a bunch all at the same time, now surprise they're ripening at the same time. Are they any good frozen?

They only stay open a couple of hours or something and then shrivel up.

Are you letting them spread across the ground or training them up a trellis?

No flowers on my butternut squash yet but I'm hoping to train them up a yet to be constructed frame within the box section frame. I'm assuming they are similar in growth & flowering to the pumpkins.

For the horizontals above the squash I'm just going to put in some M8 studding then timber uprights. Think I need to do it soon!

In the last batch of light sweet Mediterranean pickles I made I used courgette's and the bigger marrow sized ones . Olha has also used them as a thickener in some of her delicious Ukrainian soups .
