That is a question that has recently been asked about the Scimfest show this weekend. Some bright spark has decided that a classic, one marque annual event requires an exhibition of Chinese electric cars, wearing stolen MG badges.

I nearly bought a Triumph Spitfire off a guy at work a few years ago, until I saw the bonnet and boot lid had been replaced with fibreglass ones, and it seemed to be impossible to get the paint to stay on them. Proper pressed steel replacements would have blown the budget at the time.

I had the same problem with the fibreglass top on my camper, paint would flake off after a season or two. I assume there is some prep method that fixes all these issues?

Probably just as well I gave the Spitfire a miss anyway, it'd still be sitting in bits in my garden now...

None of my many fibreglass jobs fail. This one was either exceeding the overcoat window and/or not keying the substrate. It was a completely manky job regardless and all has to come off and be done properly. Nothing strange about the prep, just standard techniques and with epoxy primer, a reliable and lasting job.
