mine takes a full 8x4 sheet of 6mm plate on 100x100x3mm box frame.....with an under shelf.....
i can only move it with a pallet truck or forklift....
i make a lot gates...anything smaller is a pain......would like a 10x5 sheet tho........

I rescued a dismantleable lab bench frame (2"x1" box) from a skip, topped that with 3/4" ply to wind up with 8'4 x 3'8 and screwed rails under it for big (metrology) drawer slides, very convenient (and exactly the right height for the Bisley drawers supporting it in the middle), then came across a 1m square of 10mm stainless in the same skip - bit of a wrestle, but fitted in the Crusty Honda! Popped that on the end of the bench (thanks for additional muscle, Ryan the former housemate, fair exchange for "storage space" for your Snap-On tool wardrobe?) with a couple of inches overhang for the earth clamp, Robert is one's parent's sibling. BigTIG sits next to the bench, bottle's strapped to one of the legs, even more convenient! Also from the same skip, a knackered cast iron surface/fixture plate tapped with M6 holes, perfect for strapping things down to at odd angles....

I used scaffolding and KeeKlamp fittings to build a 10' bench right across the back of my garage. Top is moisture resistant 22mm chipboard flooring double upped (glued and screwed together) to make 44mm thick. IDC I intend cladding that with 3mm galv sheet that is folded over the front edge and an upstanding at the back. Thsi will be a work bench rather than a welding bench.

Just happened to stumble across this vid, might be helpful? Uses flow forge as the bench top which is cheap(ish) and sturdy. But it does of course come back to what does the OP want to make on it though?
