Ride on mower choice

I have a friend that is worth several million dollars, and he still potters aorund with the cheap 38" 13 hp throw away riders.

He spends more time going around all the trees, and the small cutting width and wastes time.

Won't even consider a larger conventional (48" 21 hp) as too expensive, and a hydrostatic drive (which would help speed things up) is confronted with "it's power wasting".

I don't care if the thing drinks 5 gallons of gas (petrol) and hour, he needs a 60" zero turn with 25 hp min.

Perhaps less so, if you're worth millions. And, perhaps he enjoys the time spent - regarding it as a form of therapy? [or, he wants to get away from a nagging SWMBO ]

You can still get old small (think grey Fergie & the like) bombproof tractors. For what you get they are a bargain if you could stretch the budget for one and a mower.
Cut often enough & the cuttings shouldn't be too onerous for Fido & chums?

He might just want something that gives him an excuse to get away from the mrs for a couple of hours.

I don’t think this post has had a single answer that would be in budget

I think you would be lucky to get a reasonable but old and used budget ride on. That size area isn’t too much effort to manually rake and collect in a big barrow so collection not a huge issue. Do it often and dry and I’d mulch it in like others have said.

That looks like a copy of a logic ATV120 but there are many makers, many of which are from the orient. I use an older one of these with a Briggs and Stratton engine

Or a 1.65m flail on the back of a more modern tractor than above. Got fed up with old two wheel drive tractors and this was forsale locally at the right money vat paid with less than 250 hours on it a couple of years ago. Its 2015. Roof leaks a bit but other than that does everthing I need.

Way above budget still I’d think but wouldn’t a tractor with PTO be better than buying a separately powered flail, probably cheaper and gives so many more options.

I thought those powered flails were aimed at people who couldn’t have a tractor (space, price, whatever) and used a quad instead?

I would spend a bit of time on this paddock and make it mowable, worth getting it flailed off a few times and then it will be manageable with a sit on.

Slight thread side track on this (how unusual ) but seeing as we are talking about tractors.

I was out walking yesterday and saw some bloke with a "Solis" tractor unit with a front loader, looked handy bit of kit but not a name I'd heard before. Clearly gone for an "ISEKI" colour scheme.
Anybody know much about them?

Solis is indian, make a fairly large range. Guy up the road bought a year old two wheel drive one as a scraper tractor looks ok. Think they have a mitsibushi engine, and better quality than chinese, though suspect like everything full of chinese bits. Not unreasonably priced either.

This is like the one we got, although didn't pay that much. Probably could have got something cheaper with a Chinesium engine but I run the Honda dry at the end of the season and it starts fine the following year.
