I'm trying to put a patch on a pressed steel cover. It's far too thin to weld, by me at least, I'd say about 0.6 mm.
It doesn't need to be particularly neat so I was just going to soft solder it. I've had success doing it this way with electronic rosin cored flux before, but this time I got a bit too aggressive with the blowtorch half way round and it turned blue. It's a really hard layer, a glass fibre pencil doesn't touch it.
Is there a flux that will cut through the oxide layer, and is better for soldering steel generally? Or will I have to dismantle it all, sand back to bare metal and start again?
