The chap who runs the caravan site near me has a Daf artic unit with a step frame caravan on it. And between the cab and the fifth wheel he has a smart car sideways on which he drives up on alloy ramps. It's an amazing set up. Hate to think what the cost was.

In my days of off roading it was an often debated point.
As I see it its a legal grey area that until we have more case law will continue to be so.
The main points are.
Towed car has brakes so they must work at the correct efficiencies.
Its difficult as its neither a car or a trailer.
The A frame stuff does quote a nearby place of safety, this is all dependant on how good your legal team are.
Now having commented on all this I used to do it on a regular basis towing this
