This casing has been painted with emulsion and probably other coats of unknown paint underneath. I'd like to use it for display..it does actually still work!
I'm not sure if i should leave as is or strip the paint off and make it look original. Photo shows the wood (untouched) on the inside
If i use say paint stripper then wire wool to avoid damging the wood, then oil it, would i get a reasonable finish?
Anyone recognise the wood type? Mahogany?
It's got VIR cable in the back so dates it somewhere between 1910 and 1950
