You can weld with 100% CO2 yes, and a lot of people do. You won't get anything like the very best performance from the machine (you need Argon/CO2 mix for that) but it can be an economical way. You first need to check you can get the thing refilled; Breweries, ie.Pub gas companies are increasingly clamping down & will only exchange their own brand cylinders, which tend to be on a rental based system, much the same as the proper stuff through the likes of BOC etc.

Hi if you have a pub bottle go to http://www.jawel.co.uk/index.html they did exchange them or if you live in "brum" there is a welding place just down the road from the science museum hope this helps you

You can get these refilled at the fire extinguisher shops.I get mine filled up at the fire protection center for £10 a go pretty good value i think.

Also remember if you;re planning on getting posted dont expect to ever see it! If its shipped resembling a gas bottle it wont be delivered!

I use pub gas all the time, at the end of the day how perfect do you want a weld, its down to preference, and thats why they invented grinders, obviously a hot gas is going to give a better weld and less spatter than a cold gas, but most of my welding is covered by underseal or I grind down

i kind of see what your saying m8, but its a lot less bother to not tohave to grind, it breaks my heart if i have to do it after all the efort of getting it right in the first place, not forgetting the time factor

me i allways want the perfect weld, dosent allways happen though

why the oh dear remark, like i said, most of my welding is auto related, mainly underbody, so why bother creating a perfect seem when its getting covered with underseal, and if there is any welding to do to the body that is visible, both edges of the weld material are chamfered back and filled with weld which is then ground back smooth for a flat finish anyway, I get the results I need and thats what matters, no complaints is my end result

No offense darren its just makes us in the trade cringe at the thought, Iv replyed to a good few threads on pub gas and the impurities in it, the trouble is messy welds not only look bad but are often structualy unsound as well, I am not critiseing just passing on a pros perspective.
BTW i do not touch cars only structual material.
