i started to make a weather vane last year and got as far as the drawing i will get round to eventually

Info on weather vane.
My wife and I found a clipart image we liked and I enlarged it with MSPub. Traced it onto a piece of Masonite, traced that onto the 12 ga. steel. Cut it out with my plasma cutter. Cleaned it up with grinders and files. I hadn't made one of these before so I took a pipe nipple and pipe cap. Ground a slot in the cap and welded it to the vane itself. I found the balance point by cutting a slot in the end of a piece of tubing, drilling a hole in that and welding a nut, so I could clamp it in the vise and play with it. The base for the roof I bought called for 3/4 inch so that's what I used. I cut out the letters and welded them to the straps and then to a piece of tubing. Welded that to the shaft. Painted everything, masked for the letters and painted them. I ground the inner shaft to a point on top and used the two bearings on top, inside pipe. Sprayed bearings, shaft, and inside pipe with lithium grease. And now, if I can borrow a phrase from you guys, "Bob's your uncle!"
