I'm sure someone on here found it cost effective to buy a wider belt of the right diameter and split it into multiple belts the right width.

I used to do this but its difficult finding good belts these days. The problem is the glue joint...some belts have no reinforcement on the back and they last just a few seconds.
A lot of the ebay ones I found show a descent belt in the pic (with back reinforcement)....but when they arrive the reinforcement is missing so they're useless and last just seconds.
That seems to be the problem, hopeless joins on these things, I've got a bunch of snapped ones that the abrasive is effectively unused, rather than bin them, I glue them or bits of them to pieces of wood to make handy "sanding blocks"

In fact the blue ones are the best - they are much better apart from one seller who's blue belts are crap!!!
Bright blue are fine - the much darker blue are the problem.

The blue zirconium ones are excellent. Plenty of good ones on Ebay.

Couldn't agree more....in the past I would bulk buy the belts but now thats too much of a risk. I've even bought 2 sets from the same supplier and one has been great and the second has been utter rubbish.
Problem is....the rubbish ones are completely useless...they break in seconds.
Agree on the zircon....but I'm finding that the brown are more consistent so been buying more of those recently. Definitely don't trust the pics on ebay...often they show properly jointed belts but what turns up is just rubbish.
There is always the not as described function on ebay.
Don't trust Amazon reviews either. Often they are related to a different item the sellers has.

I bought a load from eBay seller johnt1102 and have had no problems with them, the joints are reinforced with fibreglass tape. I have no association with the seller.
I've been using the Screwfix ones, and Silverline from the local hardware shop for my B&D. They don't last for ages, but I wasn't expecting them to based on my experience of rubber-backed sanding sheets on an angle grinder. Whacking metal with abrasive glued to paper is always going to be a losing battle for the belt. The powerfile certainly gets down the snotty welds I've discovered when cutting into my car, without the terror of the die grinder.
The instructions on mine show a triangular arm as an option, allowing a short flat belt run to be used to flatten lumps in the middle of an otherwise flat area. Has anyone used one of these?

@johnt1102 is a member here, but last seen in 2014. I used to buy belts from him back in the days of British Blades forum.
A good guy, and good belts. I haven't dealt with him on EBay, but I'm surprised he's only got 98.7% positive feedback.
I'm another customer of his, I buy the blue ones, always consistent good quality & a fair price. I've tried cheaper ones but the quality is not as good so I don't bother shopping around any more.
