I've just put a deposit on a 22 kva 3 phase generator. There no single phase on it is it just a matter of using one live and neutral. And does that just give a third of the kva? Ie 7 kva single phase?
Good point - might be worth a look in the connection box to see how it’s configured. Also see if earth is tied to chassis and neutral.Make sure there is access to the Neutral on the alternator for single phase…. ( Star point..) power available will be 1/3 of the output in 3 ph…
could it have 5 pin but one not connected ?what are the 3 phase sockets on it 4 pin or 5. if 5 it has 3 phase neutral and earth . just use 1 of the phases and the neutral giving 240v single phase
hardly likelycould it have 5 pin but one not connected ?

BTW- I recognise the panel - that's a Pramac generator set.
Almost certainly fitted with a Meccalte Alternator, so easy to alter the output to 1ph, - maybe a bit of faffing with output cabling and change of protection breaker etc.
Congrats - their faith must have been justified - cos I've never seen a mounting plate of a Meccalte come unglued from the cylinder/casingI installed a robot welder at the Meccalte factory to seam weld the alternator bodies then "stick" the mounting plates on, I say stick because when I asked them about checking the welds I'd just programmed they said "it looks OK", the weld had to support the weight of the alternator hanging under a train

It is indeed. But it’s my mate’s (I look after it), not the OP’s.BTW- I recognise the panel - that's a Pramac generator set.

Yep, sorry, my mistake. 5 1/2 kW would be more like it - not 7kW.Best also not to mix kVA and kW as likely to be different by a factor of at least 0.8. the 22 kVa set will probably give 18 kW at the most unless it is a really high spec set.
In case ts ever useful.... Meccalte offer upgraded insulation treatments for their alternators (but you have to ask the dealer for it if you want/need it, it cists extra, & there's typically a lead-time implication). It is indeed. But it’s my mate’s (I look after it), not the OP’s.
We were wandering past it at the Thainstone auctions, looking for a bacon roll. Mate put in an impulse bid.
Got it home - no output. Windings burnt but Perkins engine perfect. Swapped in a new Meccalte alternator and done good service ever since.
