Up and Over garage door

Evening All,
Do any of you magnificent fellows/fellowesses know how to de-activate the above for removal? I have a concrete sectional garage with a Henderson Merlin door, the wooden frame/surround has rotted over the last 4 decades and I want to replace it, however I am very wary of the dirty great spring along the top, just waiting to take my head off!

I think you can put a lock pin through it to hold the spring in place, used to have one, but had it replaced some time ago.

if you can access youtube and view any links on there then you have added something thats blocking site links via another site

that will either be something youve added or its been installed via your software that your using to websearch

any add blockers can block external site links

you can unwind it using a couple of round long pins or a couple of phillips drivers just count the turns so when you put it back on its at the right tension there easy enough to do

Must have fitted,repaired, replaced hundreds over the years.

Although must be at least 20 years since the last. There isn't enough stored energy to get excited about.

From memory put a pin/drill bit/nail in the hole in the alloy spindle block used to adjust the tension. This is found on spindle adjacent to one of the cones.

Wedge the door into the frame and remove coach bolts from spindle mounts and lower the spindle until it's resting on the door.

Personally I would probably just cut wire with nipps whilst stood out of the way of potential flailing wire.

Or undo the grub screws on the tension block and let it undo itself.

I use a long thin Philips screw driver that just fits in the pin hole and a suitable open ended spanner to start taking the tension off , it's a bit of a faff but the safest way , don't rely on a bit of wire clip to hold the spring under tension .

I'm sorry that I obviously wasn't clear with my intentions - I want to make the door safe, remove the frame and door, re-make/replace the timber frame. refit the undamaged door, refit the frame AND existing door to garage.
I don't want to:
1. Damage the door
2. Replace the door
I want to refit the existing door in a new timber frame

Have a look at the side runners to see if it is best to remove them from the frame before relieving tension or just take one of the bottom screws out ( I don't think they are attached to the door). As per the instructions, put a screwdriver (just been to look to see if I have the old pin and must have binned it with the old cone set) through the end of shaft to lock it off and slowly relieve spring tension at the other end. When the tension is off the spring wedge the bottom of the door and remove the mounting screws from the top of the door. The door, side arms and top spring can now be removed from the frame. Finish removing the side runners and replace the frame, put door back in.
If you want to do it early afternoon today PM me as I need to fetch a new water butt tap!

I've got to do a fair bit of measuring up and ordering wood yet, I'm afraid - hopefully today, I should have a clearer picture. I'm currently confirming feasability. Ideally I would get someone in to replace the frame completely and rehang the door, but that appears to be an impossible ask, after spending 2 days on the phone

its still the same

untension the spring remove the door sliders and spring then then remove the wood surround fit new wood and then refit the sliders and spring

my advice here is get the right thickness in wood get the wood painted and the door frame built up in either wood or metal your choice

what you are finding out is unless its a new door and runners no one wants to touch it

made the daughters frame out of a few 12 foot scaffie planks cut down the middle and nailed together making it about 4x 4 inch the right size for next to nowt to buy only. paid a quid a piece for them

After inspection and partial removal yesterday, I'm afraid that I've done a 'Sir Robin' and decided to replace and reinforce the frame insitu - thanks for everyones input
