Only to sell it as I'll get more of the equity I have in it, but I'm going to have a chat with them first.
The car itself isn't too bad it's the dealership. 3 months to fix a couple of speed sensors. So no ABS and lots of random annoying alarms.

I'm going to get proper quotes, those numbers came up on t'internet but could be wrong. I shall share pricing when I get them.
They are probably wrong as some farmer mentioned he saved 6k a year on fuel and payback was less than 4 years. So that would indicate less than 24k.
I quite like the idea of an electric Defender pickup as my daily pootering vehicle in retirement. The thing that puts me off is their predilection to bring stolen. But I do have a tracker on the Ranger that I can transfer.
To me, the defender would be an ideal vehicle. If you could get the weight distribution right then there is scope for a variety of battery packages to suit different ranges. I guess they will be limited by overall weight though. BUT.. prices need to be a lot lower to be a mainstream thing.

Pollution per person - we are above the average - only slightly - but we are.

This year there is 8 billion
And by the time I die it will 10 billion.
In my short lifetime the worlds population has tripled - this is where the problem lies
Too many people consuming too much!
I honestly believe this is route cause of all the earths resource problems - too many successful breeding medium sized mammals = US
(Try getting your MP to sell that concept as a vote winner!)

When you add-in that the presenter got given a VW thing (looked a bit like a shrunken Transporter, people carrier thingummy) for his programme & journey (so it cost him nothing - a freebie - something you'd expect to make someone more positive) - its not great.
Apart from the time spent looking for a Charge point (he tried more than one that didn't work at all, and others were clearly driving him nuts with complicated online forms to fill in and Apps to download - at least one of which didnt work) - he spent a goodly while sat in car parks & Services while his loaner car charged up. He admitted to "Range Anxiety" & being riveted to the "charge remaining" readout screen.
The guy who was responsible for the Nissan Leaf (now works for Aston Martin) was interviewed, and he was among those saying the Charging Network (& the power network being inadequate) was only 10% of requirement, and no sign of any initiatives & investment to address the problem.
The programme walked very softly & did its best not to be inflammatory, contentious or go against the govt-led trend - but even then the conclusion was that the UK is not ready for the EV.
Someone asked me once that, if advanced aliens with inter-stellar travel capability did find Earth - what would they think of finding "intelligent life" (us).
My response was to say that I doubt we'd be viewed as intelligent life at all.... more probably we'd be viewed as some sort of infestation, like a plague of locusts or rabbit's. Breed uncontrollably, and consume everything till there is nothing left.
(In our collective arrogance, & with so many sci-fi series putting Humans out there as equals among myriad alien races - the narrative tends to be that we'd be respected etc).

I don't know mate - I have given this allot of thought in the last few years.
It is nature to want your gene pool to survive. Humans are not greedy "as such" they just want there spawn to live a better life - generation on generation.
But what I can tell you is - a few EV/PHEV cars is not gonna touch the sides with the problem that is coming.
The car is only a 100yrs old - plastic is only 50yrs.
Tech is funny thing - you can't reverse it!
Out of control population growth is an exponential problem. That no one can address/resolve I think?
It may become a self solving problem... But the world won't be a nice place when that happens...

1885/86 is generally accepted to be the advent of the first internal combustion engined car, although steam power goes back a lot further - 1769 for the first practical example. Plastics (except cellulose based ones) were in meaningful production in 1950 and a 'war secret' in the 1940's

I not sure when mass ownership of cars came - when most people had a car? 60's?

late 30's I'd say, looking at some of the old newsreel film from that era - as usual though, that'd be skewed to the townies!

In the 30s they were still the perk of the wealthy as transport, though there were more small business type motors. Most folk didnt have the spending power, and toiled to pay their rent. Many still lived in company houses, shopped in company shops, drunk in company pub…..miners and mill workers been prime examples.

The gist of it, is that it's utterly irrelevant what we in the "first world" here in the UK (with our 1% of the global emissions) - or even Europe.
Why? He went on to use numbers that I don't recall, but essentially he said that the massive places like Eastern Europe & China - have massive populations that are focused on only one thing.... survival & betterment of themselves and their children. When the vast majority don't even have a toilet, let alone indoor plumbing etc etc - these millions of people have "saving the planet" and reducing emissions so far off their radar it's not even a blip on the periphery.

Need to be very careful...folk don't like it when you point out the large elephant in the room!
Resource "per head of population" running out...the resources are the same...just the number we divide them buy is increasing at a staggering rate.
