True, but over the last ten years the number of ski boats down our way has collapsed, used to be scores of then causing mayhem but fuel costs drove many out of it. They seem to have been replaced by jetskis!
Seems that a lot of places like round here a big petrol engined boat is seen as a dinosaur due to lack of places to go fill it up. Most were re engined with diesels long ago. But go up the upper Thames & petrol still popular particularly in vintage boats, Try selling a classic launch up there with a diesel & nobody wants it, vintage petrol engine & thats what people want.
I will be having to fit a new tank in my vintage launch (vintage straight 6 petrol) soon & have a feeling im going to go the plastic route.
If only because i helped clear out a burned out GRP 43ft yacht a while back, totally burned out cabin & cockpit gone, the fire was so fierce it had melted the intake manifold on the engine. Yet next to it were two full 5ltr plastic petrol containers that had been in a cockpit locker, Bulged, handles distorted but they hadnt burst.

Why not have two tanks but use the day tank system commercial boats use?
Fuel is held in storage / settling tanks then pumped up into a day tank after its been filtered and de watered.
Not sure of your capacity or if that’s overkill but food for thought.
It’s common on tugs and fishing vessels I’ve worked on, helps a lot when they roll.
Again. Not sure of your boat or how she handles and if a day tank is overkill but while the chat was going down the 2 tanks vs 1 tank route I thought I just stick it out there.

If i could run diesel I would but its fitting in two engines with same spec. Or near enough. XUD are good but scare and lighter than the VP B20 engines. Just get it on the plane but not same performance. Turbo version is hard to keep cool so it has to be the NA.
I would.make my adaptor etc to mate the 270 drives.

if it hasnt got an injector pump , its not a good diesel .... the price to change and the grief will buy a lot of petrol.

Reason I havnt really. Beside the cost to do it. 100+ho engi es are not cheap. Well old school not this modern rubbish.

I think that may be true upriver, but tidal machines are nearly all diesel.
I think there is over 100 boats where we keep ours, and to the best of my knowledge two are petrol, both with twins, both first boats.

Props/gearing may be an issues, as most petrol will rev higher than their diesel equivalants..

It's "spot the diesel" in our harbour..
Mostly petrol inboards/outboards, and I'd say over half of those are 100hp+

The service tank and settling tank system on bigger stuff is due water drop out from MDO. On bigger stuff, the fuel is also centrifuged to remove solids.
