Mobility scooters

My mum is at a point where she would really benefit from a mobility scooter. Something portable though.
She wants to be able to get it in and out of her car (vw up)

I suspect this might be a bit of an ask though!
She found a lightweight one, but I had a look and it was 21kg. No way she will be picking that up, and deffinately not getting it into the boot of a hatchback!

She has found another now, a live well jaunt. This apparantly comes apart.

Anyone got any experience of this kind of thing?

How easy to take apart?
Weight of largest part?
Etc

No personal experience but a lot of the motab cars have electric jib hoists in the boot for electric scooters to be lifted in & out with.

ive looked into it a few times

i do keep an eye on jerryrigeverything on youtube

worth considering as tech has changed enough normal wheelchair turned into a motorised wheelchair

The issue with modifying the car etc, is it's hopefully a temporary situation untill she gets her new knee. But that could be years yet.

I'm not convinced there will be a suitable option she will be able to lift, but we'll keep looking.

theres not much options for wheelchair access on your own

its either wheelchair access new car
wheelchair drivers seat comes out twists and you slide over to the wheelchair the wheelchair gets lifted into a roof box
wheelchair seat becomes the driving seat
pull yourself into the driving seat and strip down the wheelchair but for the older ones its not that good

i do like the idea of adapting a normal wheelchair into an electric type of one would come in real handy for better access and allows the user to become self dependent

Yes, I'm sure I've seen them too.

If you have a big estate, a set of ramps and you can drive it up standing beside it.

Either that or she needs Thunderbird 2

main problem I see, is the weight of the batteries, If she knows she is only going a very short distance. maybe replace them with smaller ones?

I meant folding ramps. We have a pair, weigh very little, just prop them against the tailgate and off you go.

My neighbour has folding ramps and drives it into his pickup (not whilst sitting on it!).

Seems to get on pretty well with it. Obviously you have to factor in the extra time it takes to unload but works for him.
