Not to quote my own post, but….
What is the female part of these called does anyone know? Ball clamp it isn’t and I’m getting results I’d rather not have in my browser history
I want the clamp arrangement that goes over the RAM ball and tightens up. Ideally with a flange mount but that’s the least of my worries.
All I can find is a double ended tube so as you can put a ball in each end but that’s not what I want or
Bet if you searched for flange mount you'd get some interesting results

The paint and fittings arrived for the painting tool box. First, 2 coars of primer and two top coats. The cheap builders merchant's ply on the front and back is really nasty but it will do.
The handle and catches arrived from Pen Elcon, they supply bits for making cabs for the music industry. Look pretty bog standard to me
. I already had some cheap corner protectors but they were antiqued so painted them satin black. I wish I had painted the hinges black two, I guess I still can.
Next onto fitting out the inside I have a few ideas. I quite like the contrast between the painted outside and wood interior.

Made a teardrop for the rear master cylinder as I want to fit a left handlebar rear brake on my bike. The ones you can buy basically mimic the oem teardrop with one fixing screw which is really just meant to feed oil under gravity so no pressure but as I will be putting pressure to it I would not be happy. Here is a vid of one that someone posted on the Africa Twin forum, as you can see it is not the best, it flexes every time the handlebar lever is pulled and I think will eventually shear the screw that holds it on.
So did some measuring up and came up with a design, it will use the oem screw but also clamp around the master cylinder body holding everything secure. Space is tight but hopefully my measurements are correct.
Here is the 3d model in fusion.
I popped down to the workshop this evening and machined and anodised ready for a trial tomorrow.
I have all the rest of the parts required except the handlebar lever for the brake as it is on back order from Puig, hopefully it will be here soon.

Today I made a couple more patches for the Ducato camper.
This is turning into a bit of a saga.
Anyway it failed the MOT because of more rot.
I missed it, (I wasn't looking too hard) but there's holes in the inside of the strut turrets.
Lovely, nice easy repair?
I think not.
Removed the struts and even then I can hardly get my head in.
I tried cutting it out and repairing it from under the wheel arch, but it was going to be a hash, so I decided to get access from the inside of the van.
Tried keyhole
Then decides to just "crack the chest" and give myself some room.
Small simple patch first, still awkward to weld.
The other was not so simple and made even less simple, because I made it too small.
2mm steel cut and bent to shape.
Then I Tig welded the piece I should have kept on.
I wasn't being fussy about distortion and got plenty.
But a bit of planishing got it back easily enough.
Finished patch cut to final shape
I need to blast and paint the inside with galvafroid but that is enough for today.
I made a patch for the other side while I was at it.
I'm not looking forward to getting access to it either.

Even with the bigger access it was a pain to weld.
I couldn't really see, because my arm was in the way but also because I need my old eyes really close to the weld to see well.
Not my finest work but what do you do?
I'm not trying to hide stuff with the crap photo, it's about as good as I can take given where it is.
Off to start the other side, I might be gone some time.

doesnt look like much and took me longer that it should, but its my first decent project with my lathe and im pretty chuffed how it turned out,
still seems bloody mental to lift an outboard like that, but thats how it meant to be done!!

So after picking up and feeding from his mother, with supplemented bottles Thursday, and Friday even putting on a bit of weight, Saturday evening when I got back from the countyshow, he had developed a nasty wheeze, tried steroids and antibiotics through Sunday he deteriorated. His chest sounded like it was half liquid filled and he'd smoked 80 a day for 70 years. So this morning made the tough decision to do the kind thing and put him to sleep. Wasnt easy I can say, real men dont shed a tear, but I did!

Today (well yesterday) I finished welding the Ducato.
I learnt how not to do it from the drivers side and approached the passenger side slightly differently.
Gave myself a bit (lot) more access and cut out the strengthening plate to the top of the strut.
The closure panel is in two parts and I had to weld by braille on the DS.
This time I took out the lower section and made the repair patch the full size so I just had to spot weld it to the lower inner arch.
Easier to weld but still awkward.
Then it was just weld it back up.
I cut a bit extra off the double skin of the top strut plate so I could weld both layers fully.
Then weld the rest back in. I painted some galvafroid to the layers, probably pointless but some might remain after welding.
Bit of white epoxy primer, seam sealer and it's almost there.
Rough and ready but it will keep it going for a few more years.
This side took me about 6 hours from start to finish.
