Carbon Fibre ?

Morning all.

After searching in al my usual places i am a dead end here. I am after some 1270cm wide and unable to find any. It is the Spread tow carbon fibre i am after.

It not a structural job or anything just a wat to snaz up the new bulkhead i am fitting to my boat. If it fails ill just flowcoat it later if it crazes or anything, done it before on car dash boards and worked well..

As it is non structural and only for cosmetic effect, can you use a wrap instead ?

Good idea but it damages easy...doesn't it ? Gel coat can be repaired. Well more difficult to damage.

A new bulkhead for this. Will be poly though.

Does it have to be Plain Weave ?

Yes. Being being picky lol. Just not keen on that pattern. Seen this aswell which I like but do t come wide enough either.

Few here in 1250 so close to what you want

That is my usual place and ECF for my gear. They don't have the spread tow carbon in at the wider roll.

Basics for use is wet out the item or mould etc you laminating. Then lay up the cloth over it. Wet that out a little then again untill you get to the thickness you want. There a re a few ways to lay up but on my project I will be making the bulkhead then using polyester resin with Styrene which make the resin more fluid to help soak I to the plywood. As many coats as eeded until you camt see it soak In. Add more straight resin and then lay up. I will be using a fibre glass woven then the carbon on top. No strength needed. As said asthetics.

I never used a gel coat.
I used to buy from Composite Wings, Carrs Reinforcements or Blakes Marine.
So what’s spread tow?
