Motorised shutter change switches.

Good afternoon all

I want to change over the switch on the roller door of my unit, for a tad more security.

Below you will find both switches and rhe circuit diagrams.

The current setup is as follows.. when you press "up" it latches and continues to raise door..After you stop pressing, but to lower door you need to keep "down" pressed. "Stop" just stops the door raising.

Then the new switch. You can turn it left and right for two different connections.

Is there enough info on these diagrams to install?

OK. I think its pretty straight forward.

Common ground and neutral.. then switch on live.

Both switches switch live with two outputs. One going to the OPEN input on motor and the other CLOSE.

But in the context of motor.. its more of a forward and reverse control.

Where is the latching done for the OPEN function on the original switch?

The original switch is two momentary normally open switches for up and down and one normally closed momentary switch for stop.

The latching is not done in the switch. The relay that is triggered by the open switch will be a latching relay, which is disabled by a limit switch at the top or by the stop switch (stop and the limit switch will be in series).

The down will not be a latching relay.

It is not clear if the key switch is a momentary one. If you turn the key and let go, does it return to centre?

It would appear that you were spot on..

The keyed switch was just momentary on both directions... meaning when you instructed it to go up, you can't stop it..

So.. to be able to stop it we wired the key switch along side the original switch and maintained the stop on that switch.. its a bit but works.

I am thinking about re-enabling the original down switch so that the key isn't needed to close which makes sense in my application.

The keyed switch was just momentary on both directions... meaning when you instructed it to go up, you can't stop it..

If you wanted the up to cease when you release the key, have a look in the control box and just remove the latching part of the up relay. Should be a simple as disconnecting (and insulating the end) of one wire.

Just be aware that you then need to consider how to prevent overtravel at the top or confirm that the existing overtravel switch still operates as it should.

To be honest I'd rather keep the latching up. It's convenient to have it really.
