The pins seize and the body rots behind them.and the back door hinges break all the time too.
Both easily fixed. I reamed them out and fitted new pins, after welding the body up.

mine always snapped ,,, they were soft and the springs were hard ,,, I used to put a chain from one rear spring hanger to the other with the van backed up against a telegraph pole ,,, a sort of early anti theft device ,,, ah the bad old days ,,,The pins seize and the body rots behind them.

The hinges snapped? The actual hinge bodies? They are chunky bits of cast (iron?), that surprises me.mine always snapped ,,, they were soft and the springs were hard ,,, I used to put a chain from one rear spring hanger to the other with the van backed up against a telegraph pole ,,, a sort of early anti theft device ,,, ah the bad old days ,,,
Also rare cos they’re not worth saving. If it was a horse, they’d shoot it.Bedford CF's rare as hens teeth, as they were born to rot, and hence so rare nowadays.
I remember about 50 years ago one was parked on the verge by the A 30 between Heathrow and Feltham with a large placard stating " another heap of rubbish from Bedford " ,It was only a year or two old . It was there for quite a few weeks.Nasty vehicles new
And aboveThat’s been plastered straight for sure. Whole world of disappointment lurking under that paint![]()
RARE !! They must be worth a fortune then. or not.Bedford CF's rare as hens teeth, as they were born to rot, and hence so rare nowadays.
The slant 4 engines in the car range are the same but with higher compression pistons. The twin carbs won't fit in the c.f. though without cutting.Cousin of mine, late 70's had one. Apparently the VX 4/90 engine was virtually a straight drop in. Lincoln continental grill on the front to set it off nicely.
yep , the arms snapped ,,, i went through loads and at the time there were no second hand ones as they were all snapping ,,,The hinges snapped? The actual hinge bodies? They are chunky bits of cast (iron?), that surprises me.
try buying a mk1 transit and see ,,, even the bull nose diesel with the tragic york in them bring silly money.RARE !! They must be worth a fortune then. or not.
Crazy. Never heard of that in 8 years playing with CFs.yep , the arms snapped ,,, i went through loads and at the time there were no second hand ones as they were all snapping ,,,
I bet your Scimitar has less glassfibre in its bodyworkI wasn't in the market but it took my eye. I use a Cheltenham Sable curently but thinking of selling it. Then is the issue of what do I use for Curborough etc. I have a Scimitar for sale which I have two interested parties for so was contemplating a campervan after that one caught my eye. If it were too cheap for me to refuse it, then we might be able to do a deal once the funds come in.![]()
