Quality sockets and spanners

I've got to the point of why should I be spending my money to make my life easier to earn my boss more money.If the job takes longer or is of poorer quality due to his lack of investment then so be it.

or you invest in a top quality tool that does the job in seconds , then all the other dead beat workers beg to use it to make their life easier but too tight to buy own

True, but in my trade the mech always supplies all hand tools up to 1 inch.
I do not earn the boss more money, I just make my life a lot easier.

I was a mechanic for 25 years. I own a tool or two.

Their are different reasons for buying your own kit though.
For example buying an impact wrench so you are quicker than the company issued ratchet makes little sense in a garage with fixed hours but on something like industrial installation with job and knock makes perfect sense.

It depends who benefits from the time saving. Personally going home early to see my family is worth paying for some tools.

The other reason to buy things is comfort. This is mostly ppe but sometimes tools too.
Anything company bought is usually price orientated rather than operator comfort.

My old box was a KRA 53 with two lockers, but I ran out of space so went KRL.

I have always tried not to use the company tools, the reasons are many and varied.
1, I look after my kit so it always works when I want it to.
2, It is where I last put it.
3, It is normally better quality than the company kit
4, I never have to play hunt the tool in a large hgv workshop.
5, The grinder will have a good disc on it, the sander will have a good belt on it, the needle gun will have a full set of needles.
6, I am a magpie!

I gave up mechanicing 10 years ago and moved over to auto upholstery,most of this isn't used anymore so at some point I'll sort through it and get rid of a load of it.Loads of it has no use to many so I'll possibly bin it, I mean how many people need a special spanner for ford pinto valve adjustments or pullers for replacing vauxhall clutches?

Do not sell it to cheap, check out the new prices for the snap on stuff.

Last few months a lot of used snap on stuff has come up for sale, I reckon people are feeling the pinch and sorting out what they do not use and are selling it to raise money.
