Why shouldn't you use gasless wire in a gas machine?

I've been using it in my Clarke 150TE recently (which is hardwired for torch positive polarity) and it welds just fine. Yet everyone says it's a no-no.

Why is doing this so bad? Can anyone explain?

I don't say it's a no-no. For many jobs, I'd say it works fine. Perhaps it's the gas sellers who like to put people off.

Will probably work better with the correct polarity.

Probably like arc rods, some work in only one polarity, others both. Could be different brands of wire will not work as well especially positional.
