Scrap yard vice

Was at the metal recyclers today weighing in some swarf
Whilst there a middle aged man weighed this in for £1.50
I gave the foreman £20
I’m no vice pervert but I like this . I’ve only ever bought one vice and that was when I was 17 and went halves with my father at a bootsale and it’s still under the bench. Every other vice has been dumped in my scrap bin and retrieved by me

Amazing what some people throw away. Found a small die head type pipe threader years ago at the scrap yard. Already had a bigger one, this made a nice addition to the toolkit.

Last time I was there I grabbed five vices and a set of dormer drills to 10mm in 0.1mm increments

Hi, I can sort of see why he did that because it's £1.50 hassle free. If he was to offer it up for sale it would either be too far away, too dear, will you take 50p, can you deliver it, swap it for a PS game or any other myriad excuses.

The biggest problem with dealing with people, is the people.

They said it’s normally one a week coming in but unless the foreman catches it the clueless kids have no idea . I actually explained to them what it is as they had no clue , unbelievable

Going by the reaction to this thread, I reckon the members here find a rusty vice skip find more impressive than machining to 0001 TRO

My late dad had exactly the same vice, with the quick release device on it. It was worn, so if you put any force on the handle, it would spring open. He died in 2000 and I wasn't as 'tinker' minded then as I am now. After I had slammed the handle into my face after tightening it up too much. That went straight into the bin! I must look for another one sometime.

I can laugh about it now, But I did teach myself a few new swear words and somehow managed to throw the thing about 5metres down the length of the drive.
