changing bottle heads???

ok im real close close too buying a mini oxy acetylene kit but im also thinking about puting one together myself.....let me explane........
i have got 2 small oxygen bottles an i was wondering if theres away of changing one of bottle heads??? i know they have different threads too acetylene bottles for safety but is that just the outer thread tha fits the regs or is it the thread that goes inside the bottle aswell?
the kit i already have is full size an i know il have too buy a smaller torch an regs for it but
if i can change this one inner oxygen thread too fit a acetylene inner thread then i wood be able too fit an acetylene reg in too an oxygen bottle an away i go
i know this may sound rather strange its just too save some money rather than buying the whole kit.
if u read this an u have eney ideas or feedback please post ur comments
i will end up talking my bottle down too boc gas an see what they have too say on the matter also.

Acetylene bottles have a porous core (acetone soaked?) to prevent the things self combusting... acet is not stored as a gas or liquid, it is stored as acet disolved in.....

BOC will have 2 words or6.... 'k off, or 'k off & dont come back.

no no and no. Aceterline is nasty stuff that has to be de-solved in pumice within acetone to stabilise it

i dont know what u are trying to achieve but full size bottles and portapac small bottles both have the same size regs . left hand thread for acetylene and righthand thread for oxy . oxy is at a higher presure than the acetylene and cant be swapped ??

Don't do it.....even if you got as far as swapping bits no company is ever going to fill it for you.

Fuel gases are left hand thread for a reason. The acetylene regulator is not rated to anything like the pressure in an oxygen cylinder. As above whatever fits your big cylinders will also fit Portapak cylinders as they are the same fittings.

after reading what people posted im just goin 2buy a small acetylene bottle.

the snooper no mate i war having a laugh til i red the posts.i wood rather spend the extra money than blow myself up!
so dose eneyone know where i can buy a 20cu ft acetylene bottle from?i dont want too rent one.
an just one more thing: will useing medical oxygen make a differance than useing normal oxygen? i only ask becuse i have an endless supply of madical oxygen an again it saves buyin normal oxygen.

just buy yourself the portapack, ive got full size bottles and portapak bottles and use the same torch regs and flashback arestors between the two, i also have a set of regs hoses and cutting torch that go between the two and both sets of regs are full size, so trust me when i say they fit each other.

even if you buy a set it's worth remembering that boc have tightend up on there bottle filling and have started to tag there bottles,

i used to get a full sized argon bottle, oxy and acet swapped out for my empties at cost from the local blacksmith (a very close friend) even he cant swap out my bottles any more because of the tags.......

My local supplier "gave" me a small acet bottle a while back.. if they are independant its always worth asking. rent aint that bad from AP

if u dont understand what im talkin about the regs on boc portapacks are the same as on the full size bottles and the torch and everything else will fit

only diference is the porta kits tend to be supplied with thinner hoses (1/4" as opposed to 3/8"?) to suit the smaller torch body, regs etc are the same .

yep i have the lighweight 1/4 hoses on my full; size bottles i must have been mistaken on the gear ive been using for the last 30 years maybee i need sum advice
