Opinions please?!

Hi all, I'm new to the forum.

I came across this welding today on a machine bumper.

What's your thoughts? Big gap that needed filling. It's 8mm plate to 3mm wall box I think. I guess the question is, is it strong or adequate?

theres been a gap at fit up , and someones just filled it by making metal ,,, weve all done it , but its a very expensive way of making things work.

Not the prettiest, but given you mention 'big gap', I'm guessing it's been a 2-4mm gap between the parts, hence it's been welded with a series of tacks.

Probably as strong as the 3mm

Thanks all, like you said its not the prettiest so I think I will cut it out and do it myself. I think they have tried to weave but too slowly causing bigger beads.

Biggest weakness with that original weld would be lack of even and continuous root fusion.

It doesn't look like a wide weave to me.
It looks like trigger welding.

I certainly wouldnt be cutting it out it wont fall off and its only a bumper not a tow bar , if it bothers you give it a rub with a die grinder weave a web into the corner , its only 3mm here not an rsj ,,,, if you cut it out your still left with the same gap as the original guy had.
