Utilities for empty house ?

Quick question for the collective .....
I have a second house that I was renting out which I have now sold but not not exchanged contracts etc on
The tenants moved out a month ago

I'm not using any electricity or gas or water , I have to register for council tax you do get a month free as it's unfurnished .

Anyway do I need to sign up for utilities , I'm guessing yes .

Nope we just left it until they sulked and wrote to us, best of all we ended up in credit with the fuel rebates!
Or you could spend hours on the phone getting nowhere.
Basically when new people move in they will have to sort their details out, and then you should receive a final bill which will mainly be standing charges.

Tv licence is the best one. letter after letter, even red letters in red envelopes, saying we have upgraded this to a full visit needed etc, really makes me smile, and kind of show all they do is talk rollacks and try and intimidate people into paying, weirdly no one has shown up or if they have no one anwers the door as no one lives there.

No council tax gaps in Kent, even if empty it is full money, used to be 6 months if unfurnished, but I assume people were taking the pee as normal.

Lanlordzone forum is quite good for info.

Read the meters - and take photos as proof.
Wait till the new owner moves in then contact the utilities and explain the situation?

As you are the legal owner of the property, you will be liable for CT until the new owners register with the Council, as for G and E, you will be liable for standing charges until the new owner takes over…as has been said, take meter readings….

TV licensing….make em work for their money….barstewards….

Well I've got the meter readings of when the tenants moved out , they took photos .
Think I'll check the readings myself tho .

When I moved into my currant house the previous owner gave the electricity readings round the wrong way night and day rate .. I didn't notice for quite some time that took some sorting out !

Yes it is due to be stopped in 2024 when they hope everyone will have swapped to the new smart meters.

I received a call from 'Graham' from Bombay the other day.
I was to immediately provide an electric meter reading. This was of utmost importance.
After I got him to confirm our MPAN number to ensure it's not another of these spam energy consultant calls, I suggested the smart meter should be doing this?
Oh, it doesn't work he reliably informs me.
'We must have a meter reading'.
It's your job to read your meter, surely?
I don't think his script covered this response so the line went dead.

I was in this position last year, took photo's of meter readings and got tenant to sign a written copy of the readings. I contacted the energy company so I could take over the account while the house was up for sale and found the previous tenants had ended their contract a couple of weeks before they moved out!. Had to pay energy daily standing charge and council tax, but the water supply company were very good, when I phoned to explain they said they would put the account on hold with nothing to pay until the new owner took over which I thought was nice of them in todays computer controlled money grabbing utilities world.

Smart meter info is ********…BG is ******** too…

I went to Paris last week, switched off all users in the house..( except those that were needed..,)…

Checked on my BG account, 2nd April, showed I used lots of energy, 3rd April showed I used 0 gas, some leccy…,4th April showed I used some gas and leccy….although my meters are set to report every 30 mins, BG stated the energy figures were derived from estimated readings…,WTF!!….

Whats the point trying to budget for energy consumption if the info can’t be trusted?

These fookers who state smart tech is the way want stringing up by their balls if they have any…
I’m no dinosaur when it comes to tech, but let’s have tech that makes sense eh? Not just for fun…

Gotta love the estimated stuff, on an empty house I sent in zero usage readings each month for 3 months then get an email "based on your current usage we estimate you will use XXX next month so should increase your DD payment"

we went to a boarded up house repossession job to rewire and it was to be fully renovated. been empty for ten years . the builder said the leccy wont come on and they had put a tenner on it when i looked it had clocked up 2 grand in debtstanding charge
