Think its time for new bandsaw

Had to repair the wiring on my little sealey sm5 v3 few weeks ago due to backstop not doing its job and cutting through the cable..fireworks came to mind as the frame hit the cable, sorted that issue and now the front wheel seems to have given up the ghost, and looks to have been for some time as the spindle is worn wrong, and looks like whatever bush for the centre of the wheel is no longer in existence.

So my question is what are people using as a band saw that doesn't take up huge amounts of space, runs of 240v 13amp and is pretty reliable,

It's not one that gets used daily but would rather spend a decent bit and get something good.
This has seen me out 3 years and was 2nd hand when I got it so probably not bad going for it.

if its still working why spend 400+ on a new one when replacing the wheels is easy enough to do

I bought an 80's one of these Sealey SM5's a couple of months ago locally of FBMP.
It needed a new blade, all the blade guide bearings replacing and some general tinkering - but it seems pretty simple in construction.
I'd have thought one would pretty much last forever if you fettled it now n then

I have toyed and still am toying with getting parts for it, problem is I'm not 100% sure what's actually missing/damaged if the wheel has a bush missing etc

Sealey parts books are pretty comprehensive. Have you emailed them?

Most are on their site.

If you have a lathe and an adjustable reamer making you own quality bearing sleeve should be a doddle .

Re the cable getting cut . I put a longer cable on my saw and clipped it down to the leg /frame so it's well out the way . I've also added a stop to prevent the saw frame dropping any further than the position it will stop the machine . I have had to replace the switch twice when it has punctured the switch covering membrane & moisture got in shorting out inside the switch capsule on the relay .

I have new switches in the mancupboard , I've fully rewired it and set up the cut out's , all I need is a nice warm rain free day to finally put the latest new switch in . Thankfully I got new switches that are common to both band saws metal & wood and my drill press
IIRC , 5 switches for about £7 direct from China five months ago , advised a four week delivery time ...... arrived in 10 days .

Every good home should have a lathe.
Sounds like now would be the ideal excuse to get one.

as its the wrong time for materials due to prices its when will it ever be the right time to get round to building a garage extension

whilst material prices have risen quite alot over the last few years

the builders wages have also risen due to higher costs elsewhere

just sometimes its easier to build one yourself but have other things done by others when its needed like laying the concrete base

It had crossed my mind, but apart from small walls for garden boarders etc I have no experience in building, and there a big(ish) issue as the gas meter is on the front wall of garage internally, then it's routed up and over garage door and along the roof support so not ideal..did ask them not to put it there but they didn't listen and went ahead with it
