Bench drill

I need to replace my very old Lidl special bench drill, I can no longer live with the flexible table and lack of power; I’ve a budget of around £500.

Given I’m in France, and don’t want a restoration project, I’m looking at the likes of Femi, Sidamo, Holzmann and dear old Axminster who will ship here. I’m particularly interested to hear if anyone has experience of the Femi or Holzmann stuff.

Mick not sure about Holtzman but theres a lot of Germn named brands that are still Chinese cheapies....Stahlworks is one....

If you weren't looking for flimsy shiny new five hundred quid should fill a pallet with good solid old school tooling and cover delivery.

I’ve been on leboncoin but nothing yet. Given my complete and utter incompetence with anything electrical I’m wary of taking on a ‘project’. Eldest son has offered my a three-phase Fobco pillar drill, but by the time I’ve shipped it here and got a VFD it just isn’t worth it. Youngest son has a lovely Meddings his firm picked up for £50 on ebay but I don’t have that sort of luck.

In the U.K. maybe, I’ve had no luck with anything here other than a Wurth roll cabinet, and that wasn’t cheap!

You’re right, but I’ve got work to to do and can’t be messing around. If it’s not sacrilege I might cut down the column on the Fobco and bring that over - at least as a bench drill it would fit in my little car. I’d still have to put another motor on it or a VFD.
